Film Festival 3

Demi Moore in G.I.Jane .. Permission to dress .. Sir.

Intro

The nice things about the days around X-mess and New-Year. You can get a drink and watch some good, bad, ugly, sad, silly and crazy movies. Only staight stories, not very intellectual. A mix of shit and shoehine. My third mini film-festival.

City Heat

Clint Eastwood and Burt Reynolds are a love-hate detective team. Saving a girl in distress. A kind of prequel to Dirty Harry. The dialogs are amazingly funny.

G.I. Jane

Demi Moore is invited to become the first female Navy Seal. First she is lured into a political scheme. Then she takes her fate into her own hands. The director knows what an 'arc' is - when she shaves her head, she gets nasty.

Air Force One

Harrison Ford (president) and Glenn Close (vice-president) are struggling to stay in control of the USA. Ford (a Vietnam veteran) single handed kicks out Gary Oldman from Air Force One. Gary is always casted as the bad guy. He is my top-3 with Lee Van Cleef and (forgot his name). A real cliffhanger. "Get Of My Plane" deserves a famous movie quote.

Taking of Pelham 123

John Travolta (bad guy) and Denzel Washington (good guy) in a psychothriller. A New York underground is kidnapped. Killing a hostage every minute. I never used the FF knob.

Who should I pick

I guess you have seen some of my favorites. This is just a caleidoscope.

Kerstverhaal

Gedächtniskirche - Puinhoop in Berlijn.

Dit was 1963. Tien jaar later. Historische momenten in mijn leven.
Er gaat een vette grap de ronde toen hij ruzie had met zijn werkster;
- Werkster; If I were married with you, I would poison your tea.
- Winston; If I were married with you, I would drink it.

Miskraam. Jammer.

Film Festival 2

Poster of the original Django movie.

Ciao. Here is my second little film-festival. It's about Spaghetti Westerns. It's a huge genre that started in the early 60's and going on for more than two decades. It probably had some roots in the 50's with the Zorro and the Zapata characters. With the links and some deep googling you can get a masters-degree in Spaghetti Westerns.

Here I focus on Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained. The relaese was postponed for the Newport "incident". That was a respectful gesture. I'm not going into that, simply because I have no words for this tragedy. In January the movie will be in the cinema's. The press already had a preview and the reviews are good.

The Django character (Franco Nero) was basically created, produced and directed by Sergio Corbucci in 1966.

Clint Eastwood, Sergio Leone and Ennio Morricone are probably the best known names for their Dollar Trilogy.

"I think [the Leone films] changed the style, the approach to Westerns [in Hollywood]. They made the violence and the shooting aspect a little more larger than life, and they had great music and new types of scores. They were stories that hadn't been used in other Westerns. They just had a look and a style that was a little different at the time: I don't think any of them was a classic story, like [John Wayne's 1956] The Searchers or something like that. (Clint Eastwood, reflecting on the impact of the Dollar Trilogy).

- Eli Wallach was the Good
- Clint Eastwood was the Bad
- Lee Van Cleef was the Ugly
Oh man, how I love Lee Van Cleef.

But there is more. Much more. There were more than 500 spaghetti westerns made. In this little film-festival we want to show you some roots and backgrounds of Spaghetti Westerns. Without further ado, here are some moving pictures;

  • The Spaghetti West is a docu about the genre.
  • Here is a long interview with Clint Eastwood.
  • Here is the original 1966 Django movie.
There are some prequels and sequels. Quality is mixed. But in a film festival you can expect several movies;

Enjoy.

Poems

Actually, these are German WW-II soldiers, trying to cross a Dutch River.

Intro

Eecept for this silly Percy Shelly stuff, here are some Dutch poems.

Cees

The 'Blauw-Bil-Gorgel' still is a famous poem in Dutch literature. If I had to translate that, it would be 'Blue-Butt-Gorgeous'. It's an experimental format from Cees Buddingh. He was once declared as the most boring Dutch poet by our 'elite' witers. Especially by hot-tempered Willem Frederik Hermans. Cees is super-cool. He's a favorite of mine. Just like Simon Carmiggelt and Godfried Bomans. Cees was from the city of Dordrecht. The last place where you want to live in the Netherlands.

There is a Goeman-Borgesius-Plantsoen in Dordrecht. How do I know that. Because I had a friend on my primary school. I forgot his name. We were both bullied. We had a connection. He relocated to Dordrecht. I got his adress. I never saw him again.

Johnny

Johnny van Doorn (aka Johnny the Selfkicker) was a poet-performer in the late 1960's. His 'Sun' poem is still underestimated.

Marsman

Thinking of Holland. Wonderful poem. Put on music by this undergraduate.

Beethoven

Pink girl on a black piano.

So beautiful. The triple concert from Ludwig van Beethoven. Not played anymore nowadays, because of the awkward casting. I have a vinyl version somewhere. How do you get three world-toppers together. This is a pretty unique full concert movie
- Yo Yo Ma (cello)
- Itzhak Perlman (violin)
- Daniel Barenboim (piano, director)

He is my role model. I'm a fan of Ludwig van Beethoven. He was German. Same age as Georg Wilhelm Friedriech Hegel. Also a semi-genius. A super-great German philosopher, but completely incomprehensible. Hegel gave me a good gut-feeling for the rest of my life. Deep thoughts and great overview. I even suspect Beethoven's 9th symphony was an ode to Hegel's 'Phänomenologie des Geistes'. Nonsence, it was the German Zeitgeist.

I'ts a real difference between van Beethoven and von Beethoven. The "von" depicts (in German) that he was from noble descent. He was definitely not. Young Beethoven was a fan of Napoleon. His 'Eroica' was dedicated to him. Later on he became disappointed with in Napoleon.

There's a movie around in the cloud ('Copying Beethoven') about a young girl that's copying his scribbles for a decent publication. Grumpy, lively, deaf, old man. That's the way I want to see Ludwig (I'm terminal romantic). In this scene she is conducting the conductor on his first performance of his last symphony. Mind you, he was stone-deaf at that time. So lovely.

Totally flabbergasted when I first heard this music. Not sure how it became The European Anthem.

Yue must be aware of my Beethoven kink by now. Here is a clip from Valentina Lisitsa Beethovens's Moonlight Serenade.

Religious

The St. Nicolas Church in Amsterdam is now a Basilique. That's a special kind of catholic church. We only have five or six of them in the Netherlands. You must make a reservation - well in before - to attend the Christmas Eve Mass. St. Nicolas is the Protector Saint of Amsterdam. Funny, because The Netherlands are pretty protestant, especially the northern parts.

I'm an atheist, a non-believer. I swear, I drink, I smoke and I watch movies. I think Israel can do better and I love the Jewish Princess. I think some Islam radicals are crazy and I love the Alhambra. I love the Pope, mainly because of his former German background and the Vatileaks.

Sorry, this is a semi-serious introduction to a cunning plan. I really advice everyone to proceed this steep path and keep some braincells working. It's a little daring project and takes a few hours per month. You don't have to be religious. Let's say it's part of your education.

My own next project in life. To visit at least one sermon in;

  • A mosque. There's one here just around the corner. I must talk with the (what's he called) and I must know if he's preaching in my language. You must take of your shoes and wash your feet. I love this ritual. Mind your toe-nails and your socks. That's all what I know. But there must be more. Some research to do.
  • A synagoge. Must be a lot around here in Amsterdam. It is essential that you keep your hat on in a synagoge. You can't appear bold-headed before God. That is completely opposite to a catholic or protestant church, where you must take your hat of (Joe Cocker). I have several hats. I first must find a rabbi to talk me through the rituals.
  • A basilique is a highly rewarded catholic church. The St. Nicolas church in Amsterdam is just promoted to a basilique. We have now five of them in the Netherlands. X-mess mass was the trigger. You have to make reservations nowadays. Dutch writer Gerard van het Reve went catholic and the Pope just stimulated Latin language. I like that.
  • A protestant church. It must be 50 years ago when I last visited a protestant church with my mother. I'm not going mediocre. It must be the blackest doom and hell preacher. Something like Jerry Falwell. Hard to find in Amsterdam.

Protestant church history in the Netherlands is facinating literature. It all started in the 1600's when we struggled our way out of the Sapnisch rule during the 80-year war and became a protestant country. First discussions were about strict or relative predestination. Since then, and up till this year, there were a lot of splits. There's a Dutch protestant website that goes black every Sunday. Whatever you may think of that, I have respect for their adherence to principles. I have no principles. The Dutch have no principles. A Belgian politician once had a good description of principles; It's like a fart that escapes without making any noise.

The Book of Mormons and the Story of Scientology are completely creepy. Sometimes I shiver and sometimes I laugh. But I always cry at the songs of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.

Pruimen

Verwacht niet te veel, het is allemaal flink soft en recht-toe recht-aan. Maar er zijn een paar opmerkelijke kanten aan deze zaak;

Tijden verkeren.

Russ

Ultra Vixens [1979] Movie Poster

I've not been very active lately on my blog. Sometime it looks like I'm just pumping movie-bytes all around the interweb. Probably I have some better things to do. So here is a better idea for all of us.

[1] Take a look at the movie-poster.
This is a 90 MB. file from RS with 100 X-rated movie posters. Mostly soft, some special or super.
Here is the same 100 poster file from HotFile.
Here is the same 100 poster file from MegaUpload .

[2] Look for the movie trailer.
Utube doesn't allow for X- or R-rated clips. They have some boob-monitor in place. But this trailer still looks alive.

This 12 MB. intro trailer says it all about Russ Meyer movies boobs, boobs, cars, boobs, boobs.

[3] Then decide to download the whole movie.
You (very often) can find the full movie in .rar format on RS or MU with this great search engine. You must visit the originating site to check if a password is required.

That's how I found this great Russ Meyer cult classic. The movie is ~90+ min. in about 10 x 120 MB. parts. PSW = None.

=== [I Almost Forgot]===

Pussycat is another great [1965] culty from Russ Meyer. All movie links are still hot. There were some rumors around that Quentin Tarantino wants to do a remake with Britney Spears (she declined). Now that Pablo Rodriguez got Jessica Alba out of her clothes (Machete 2010), I am not surprised by anything anymore. I'm sure you can find the cam's on the interweb when the time is there (yawn).

Cigarettes

Scene from Seville (Spain)

Another [1984] movie. It's situated around the cigarette factory in Seville (Spain) in the 19th century. It's all about love, passion, jealousy, bull-fights, a frivolous gypsy girl (Carmen), a handsome corporal (Don Jose) and a not so happy ending.

My father introduced me to this Carmen opera (thanks Pa) and it made a firm impression on me since - for its story, its catchy songs and its sexy undertones.

Georges Bizet was a French music composer from Paris in the Romatic style. So, here is his best story and greatest (last) opera. Not sure if he was ever into Andalusian territory, but he did his research; I've been in Seville and saw the factory with my own eyes. It's a great building and its still there, but it has other usages today. The opera is so great.

Just to warm you up, try some clips from the Tube;
- Carmen overture with some Chilean 'balls'
- Sexy 'Habanera' song with English subtitles
- 'Toreador' from Dmitri & choir is impressive

'La Plaza de Toros de Ronda' (~100 miles SE of Seville) is THE bull-fight-temple in southern Spain. The BF scenes in this movie are from there and they are awesome. I've never seen any 'arty' bull-fight scenes in any movie; here is your chance.

Not for the faint-of-heart. When the toreador conquered the bull, he cut of his balls as a trophy. Ernest Hemingway was a bull-fight-fan. He is one of my heroes, maybe a substitute father (sorry Pa). Spinning around again. I did a holiday tour in southern Spain and I kinda fell in love with this region.

Take a look at this Ronda bull-fight movie . There are A- and B- category Toreadors; same as in Football / Soccer. This B-clip is very instructive for beginners. The Toreador is the star of the show. Some Picadors pinch the bull with some nasty spears to make him jumpy (always a HIM). The final scene is, that the Toreador will stab the bull with his sable between the shoulder-blades down through his heart. The bull then goes down, and he can take his balls. Finally the bull-corpse is dragged away by two horses.

George Bizet(1838–1875)did his Carmen opera a year before he died. Bizet now lies on the celeb-only cemetery Père Lachaise in Paris. I've been there too and it was an existentialist experience.

Bizet, Carmen, 1984, Spanish and English subtitles. Director: Francesco Rosi. Cast: Julia Migenes (Carmen), Placido Domingo (Don Jose).

Land

Photo (c) Ansel Adams

The 'Gulf-stream Waters' made me post this one. Because it is such a mess over there, even I (Urp) am worried. Besides that (as a runner-up for the 4th of July) this is the best ever PR song for the USA. American children should sing this song every morning in primary schools. I even don't mind if this will become the USA National Hymn (oh, what silly thoughts again);

- The original is from Woody Guthrie.
- This is a Los Lobos version.
- Pete Seeger and Bruce Springsteen.

Honda

Japanese director Ishiro Honda is The Godfather of many Godzilla movies. The series started in 1954 and is still running. There was a 50th anniversary movie in 2004. You can find some Godzilla entries on my blog. Instead of posting another episode, I will post some (re/search) links for you that are interested.

The legend originates from the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. This triggered a gene-mutant-monster called Godzilla
and some more of his angry friends.

This is a nice-to-know background story to appreciate these flicks. It's probably a kind of way for Japan to cope with these defining national events (...).

Production quality from the Tokyo Toho studios is comparable with Hollywood; high. And the movies are always very entertaining.

The Godzilla movies are under-estimated and kind of hidden-cult in the west and that is a shame. They are on the same level as (say) the Hollywood 'Batman' or 'Spiderman' series; though most of these Godzilla movies were from the 1950's and 1960's.

I am a fan of Honda's Godzilla.

Max

Carla Rodenberg made this official (state) portrait of HRH Queen Beatrix

The last day of April is Queen's Day here in the Netherlands. Always very great & big festivities with lots of music, outdoor grab-bag markets all around and a lot of mess to clean up the next day.

The story goes that we will soon see the abdication of our Queen Beatrix. She has succeeded her mother, Queen Juliana in 1980. I was a live witness of the shitty mess riots festivities then. QB is the best Queen-Bitch we ever had. QW and QJ were also firm & fine strong gals but a bit soft.

In the 1980's the authorities (Hans Wiegel was Boss of the Interior Police) almost gave the order to kill-shoot the riot protesters. 30 years later the footage is still very spectecular (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LqyZm1lBZ4k)

And then Alex (King William IV, first male king since 1890) will ascend the throne. He is not a bad guy at all. His nick-name is 'prins-pils' (prince-cheers) because he always celebrates with the Dutch female hockey team. And probably fooled around with Nicky Nowhere under the showers extending a long and never-ending Dutch Royal tradition.

He is a Dutch royal, member of the Olympic Committee and sometimes 'a bit silly' according to his Argentinean girlfriend.

Maxima is his wife and our Dutch Beauty Queen (not covered in the Playboy yet). She fucked Alex at least three times now, because they have three super royal daughters. Her tears at the royal wedding are eternal icons for all of her Dutch fans. The latin song is Adios Nanino (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bJWD_789-OE) which means 'bye bye papa' that was so to the point for this occasion.

Easter

This looks like a movie-only blog (and probably it is) and I'm not going to correct it. Like some other guys around I'm just following my hormones (i.e. moods and tastes).

For Easter though, there is here now some great classical music for Easter. I just found this exceptional music in a top quality format.

Euro

Brigitte Lahaie is a French Euro Trash icon

Super sleazy and sexy footage from the 1960's to 1980's. This 12 part history documentary series is called Eurotica. It should be archived under Euro Trash (ET).

The series shows many clips of all of the in/famous ET movies and also has many background interviews (about 30 years later) with all of the famous ET directors and actresses.

In 1974, French pron laws were abolished and then the show was on.
A lovely must-have series for all ET & Kink lovers.
You better DL one part at the time and then view the next one.
All credits go to the original uploader.
Each episode is about 380MB. and 25:00 minutes.

Runner

scene from 'Blade Runner' city

Metropolis and Blade Runner. Movies inspire other movies. We all know that. Quentin Tarantino makes it his hallmark. Here are two movies that obsessed me for some time now.

If it doesn't ring a bell, you should skip this blog, because this is a big download. All credits go to the original posters who are obviously also movie lovers – many thanks lovers.

Metropolis (1927, Fritz Lang) was hugely over budget and a big flop in the cinema in those days. It landed on the rubbish-dump of movie history. But then (don't know how) Fritz' genius was recognized and people started to reconstruct his movie.
This is the latest 2010 version, presented at the Berlin Film Festival. The 150 min. .avi comes in about 7 x 200 MB. parts with English subtitles;
Metropolis 1927 - 2010 .rar.001
Metropolis 1927 - 2010 .rar.002
Metropolis 1927 - 2010 .rar.003

Metropolis 1927 - 2010 .rar.006
Metropolis 1927 - 2010 .rar.007
Metropolis 1927 - 2010 .rar.008

The 'extras' contain original documentary 'the making of' footage.
A must-have for every Metropolis freak. Another 900 MB. of .avi;
Metropolis 1927 - 2010 extras .rar.001
Metropolis 1927 - 2010 extras .rar.002
Metropolis 1927 - 2010 extras .rar.003
Metropolis 1927 - 2010 extras .rar.004
Metropolis 1927 - 2010 extras .rar.005

Blade Runner (1982) is a direct quote of Metropolis.
Also an iconic Sci-Fi movie and also with some deeper thoughts.
The 110 min. 'director's cut' .avi comes in about 8 x 90 MB. parts;
Blade Runner part1.rar
Blade Runner part2.rar
Blade Runner part3.rar
Blade Runner part4.rar
Blade Runner part5.rar

Louis

My Nephew lost a real uncle. This blog is for them.

Louis Davids (no Wiki) was a Dutch singer and entertainer in the 1930's. His language skills (song texts) are still remarkable to today's standards. When you like Dutch language. Underestimated, he was the Godfather of Dutch stand-up-comedians. Here are some tubes and tracks – all in Dutch language.

- The Nickel song (Dubbeltje – Kwartje) is famous and pathetic
- The Scheveningen Beach song is romance
- The football-match (Ajax – Blauw Wit) is all humor
- The (Zuiderzee) South See ballad is Dutch history
- Voor de Bakker ('Done') is a Dutch saying since this song
- Summer Telegrams (.mp3) sounds like a 1937 rap
- His most famous 1937 'Ford' song is here in .mp3 format

Kim

This undated picture, released from Korean Central News Agency on June 11, 2008, shows North Korean leader Kim Jong Il inspecting Korean People's Army unit 958 at an undisclosed location.

Here is a three part documentary about the secret live of North Korean leader Kim Jong Il. Don't expect many words from me. It made me laugh and it made me cry. 68 yo. Kim is a smart guy; He stopped drinking and he quit smoking.

- Kim docu part1 from the tube
- Kim docu part2 from the tube
- Kim docu part3 from the tube

When there was world championships in military parades, North Korea would have won gold. The comments from the female voice are actually the best part of this clip.

Napoleon Crossing the Alps by Jacques-Louis David, 1800

I was exhausted after seeing this one hour docu-movie, so a great audio-visual. It's about the 1815 Battle at Waterloo. Napoleon, Wellington, Prussians, even Dutch and the lot. It were actually several battles during several days. Wiki has the story and this is the docu. The movie looks like a BBC production; one of their best.

When you listen closely, you can hear Beethoven's music all over.

In the end, Napoleon put in his Personal Guard (his special forces, that never lost a battle). They were over-acting in the charge. When they had to retreat from the English hill-side canon fire, this news got the whole French army to collapse into mental and physical disarrey and thereby loosing the Waterloo battle.

Great footage for the historically inclined.

The one hour movie is English spoken with Dutch subtitles.
It comes in about 6 x 90 MB. parts;
Battle of Waterloo - part1.rar
Battle of Waterloo – part2.rar
Battle of Waterloo – part3.rar
Battle of Waterloo – part4.rar
Battle of Waterloo – part5.rar
