Ballet
from a Sacre ballet by French choreographer Maurice Béjart
I posted this stuff before. Le Sacre Du Printemps [Rite Of Spring, 1913] is a ballet about boys, girls and sex. Modern interpretations don't leave any room for doubt. Here are just three sexy clips from Utube. I'm sure you can find the rest.
- Angelin Preljocay - Nagisa Shirai
- Pina Bausch & Wuppertaler Dance Theatre - Malou Airaudo

Bettie
Bettie Page [1923] was every boy's wet dream in the 1950's. She modeled as a pin-up in black & white girly magazines. Bettie was rediscovered in the 1980's when she got cult status, mostly because of her fetish modeling. She performed in a handful of movies in the early 1950's, but most of her work seems to be in photography.
Here official website is here.
Here are a 1000 pictures of Bettie in 10 x 100 archives [58MB.]

Soul
Stax is a famous soul and R&B record label from Memphis that just celebrated their 50th anniversary. It had [and still has] a lot of famous artist and a lot of famous songs. It was founded in 1957 by white people Jim Stewart (the ST) and Estelle Axton (the AX). Stax relocated in the early 1970's from Memphis to Los Angeles. Here is a little tribute.
Stax style composing ... Isaac Hayes was composing for Sam & Dave when he found a nice riff on the piano. He yelled to David Porter (Dave) to come and find some text wih it. Dave was in the bathroom and Isaac kept yelling. Dave yelled back "Hold On, I'm Comin'".
Some other great songs from the Stax label;
- Booker T & the MG's - Green onions hot groove
- Eddie Floyd - Knock on wood
- William Bell - You don't miss your water
- The Staple Singers - I'll take you there
- Otis Redding - I've been loving you at Monterey, 1967
- The Emotions - Best of my love
- Johnnie Taylor - Who's making love
- Isaac Hayes - Theme from Shaft his breakthrough
- Carla Thomas - Gee whizz
- Angie Stone - Wish I din't miss you new kid on the block
Isaac Hayes ("hello children") did a lot of composing for Stax before his breakthrough in 1971 with the "Theme from Shaft". In 1969 he made his second studio album Hot Buttered Soul, now recognized as a landmark in soul music. The empeethree version is here [65MB./45:00min.]

Linda
It must have been at least 30 years ago that we knocked on the door of Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club in London for a Linda Ronstadt concert. But of course, the concert was sold-out. I guess I was a terminal romantic by then. So this is a very belated tribute to Linda [1946].

Comedians

The Comedian Harmonists was a famous, all-male German close harmony group (5 singers plus pianist) that performed between 1927 and 1934. They were one of the most successful 20th century musical groups in Europe before WW-II and worked by the highest professional standards.
Some members were jewish, so the group got into trouble in early nazi Germany. Some of the members flew to America, all of them survived WW-II.

Silje Nergaard, photo by Jeroen Jansen
I had a few entries before about Silje Nergaard. I just love this woman. Silje is a Norwegian pop/jazz singer. She sings in her native language; a cool, ballad-type of jazz. I just got hold of her 1996 album Hjemmefra [From Home]. Here she sounds a bit poppy and ballad like - but great again. All credits to my nephew who provided the content.

Luba Shumeyko by Petter Hegre
I made an earlier entry about the Norwegian photographer Petter Hegre. He worked in New York with Richard Avedon before he returned to Norway. Petter received the "Photographer of the Year 2001" award at the 8th annual "Erotic prizes" in London. He is a very productive erotic photographer and publishes regularly on his own website.
This entry is about his wife, Luba Shumeyko, who also seems to be his favorite model. Luba is from Ukraine and she is a gorgeous looking young woman. Here are three small photo sets from Luba by Petter; set-1, set-2 and set-3.

Maria
Maria Beatty is a female New York filmmaker who directs, acts, and produces. Her films are often made in black and white, have high production values, and cover various aspects of female sexuality including BDSM and fetishism. She was inspired by expressionist German cinema, by French surrealism and American film noir.
It looks like Maria had some influence on some of Madonna's performances. Maybe they met in New York in the late 1970's.

Jimi
Ravi Shankar at the Monterey Pop Festival
The Monterey Pop Festival [1967] is for some people more legendary than the Woodstock Festival [1969].
Here is a nice [65MB./9:00min.] clip about the negotiations between The Who and Jimi Hendrix [who will play first]. It resulted in Jimi's famous performance; fucking the amps, burning and smashing of his Stratocaster. The story goes that Frank Zappa got hold of the remains of this guitar and had it restored.
They have a good story about Monterey at Wikipedia
Here are about 75 songs in 6x70MB. splits [you need all the parts]. Every artist comes in a seperate directory.
