Gimme

sleazy movie 2008

I got some comments and emails about this little blog. All positive and that makes you run a litle bit faster. So the February average is again around one blog a day. That is too much. I must trim down to 25 or 20 per month. But when I get crazy, I can't help myself. Last one for February I guess.

[Many thanks replier for providing the links].

This must be an accident. The movie rates 7+ on imdb and some guy even gave it a 10 out of 10. I think he is playing a sick joke on us or he is the desperate producer of this movie. And the other 15 votes must be from the cast and the crew.
This movie is so incredibly bad that it is not even funny anymore (even with the prescribed dose of bourbon). I wonder how it got an imdb entry in the first place. Don't tell me that I didn't warn you.

Mahler

Maris Janssons, München, april 4th 2006, rehersal - foto by Leo van Velzen, NRC

Some special classic music, but I'm not sure what this blog is about. After a lot of years of conducting the Koninklijk Concertgebouw Orkest (KCO, Amsterdam) Bernard Haitink left the KCO in 1988 with a row, but they made up again in 1999 - born Amsterdam, always Amsterdam.

Bernard will do some special concerts with the KCO in the very near future to celebrate his 80th. birthday. Just an educated guess - they will do some Mahler stuff. More news is expected in the next few days or weeks, so stay tuned.

BTW, the KCO was recently voted as "The Best Orchestra in the World" with Mariss Jansons (since 2004) as part-time conductor (I blogged them before). The KCO got more and better hailings from critics with Mariss as conductor; the chemistry with the KCO seems pretty OK. Too bad he gets a heart attack every 3 concerts.

No fresh Haitink stuff yet, so you must do for now with these oldish super tubes;
- KCO & Berarnd Haitink - Mahler Symphony No.4
- KCO & Mariss Jansons - Mahler Symphony No.1

Enjoy the music clips

Sun

Cover from The Sub

OK, here we go UK bashing. It's not about Harry, it's about The Sun and the type of culture where it stands for (Rubert Murdoch = Australian). First you must know that the UK (United Kingdom) is a group of islands east of the USA and somewhere north of Australia. Most of the islands have very funny habits, like the anual catholic-protestant feast in the northern parts. The region is pretty isolated, so most of the population lost touch with the normal wold. Their currency was so heavy they put it in a pound; the number of guiness to the pound is still a very well kept secret.
It's a paradise for anthropologists. But sometimes a few strange bytes leak out;

Michelle

Michelle and Barack, 2008

Michelle Obama is on the cover of the March issue of some fancy magazine. That is a rare event on its own - so they say. There were some critics with some intelligent comments. Michelle is a classy dame and she also looks like a great mother for her kids. There is the risk that she will be hottie-fied by the papa-razies, and that would be a shame for her and a desaster for the White House. Oh well, (wat leg ik tog te eikele), I guess they have all their PR under control.
Etta James is from another district, but I love them both;
- Etta's I'd Rather Go Blind song
- Etta's Best-Of album (one of many)
- a previous blog about Etta (I like this chick)
- and another one

Inglorious Bastards, 1978, recent Scandinavian poster

Quentin Tarantino's remake of Inglorious Bastards (with Brad Pitt) will be out later this year. The original was a kinda spaghetti-WWII movie with an insane body count. I have the original somewhere on my harddrive but I can't find the links anymore. So here are just the two trailers from the tube;

Cafe chess in Iran

I could have (and have) posted a lot of female sexy sporters. But in some rare situations I want to post something completely different.
I just liked this picture and I played chess myself in my younger years. Women chess players are as good as male players - although Gary Karparov thinks otherwise.
When you are a serious student, you must have these 800+ chess games of Bobby Fisher.

El

El Hamdaoui just made another goal against Heracles, feb, 2009

I am not sure about Maroco, there is a Riff region where most of our Dutch friends come from and there is the M-king's capitol where the directions are coming from and the M-capitol doesn't like the Riff people - so we have some complications included for free.

Some M-guys are very nasty (indeed) and the M-king has some reach into the lowlands too. But we like our M-football players.

Dutch saying; "Keep your dirty hands off from our dirty Marocans".

El Hamdaoui is from AZ and he is the current dutch footbal top scorer. He can't be very well google'd or wikie'd; it's just a bloody shame.

Hymns

the national anthem of Kuwait

OK, I confess, I have this little kink with national hymns & anthems (that is the tube search-string that gives you most & best of the songs). It makes you proud of your own country and it makes you many friends all around the world. I'm sure it must be sports that makes a man drip over national musics (sorry gals, this one is not for you).

- the national anthem of the USA (Star Spangled Banner)
- the national anthem of Putin-Russia
- the national anthem of the People's Republic of China (Super)
- the national anthem of North Korea (with text)
- the national anthem of Germany (with text)
- the national anthem of Iraq (SH era, Nasheed Watani)
- the national anthem of France (La Marseillaise)
- the national anthem of Belgium (La Brabanconne)

- the brits at least have some decent traditions (God Save The Queen)
- the dutch are always way out of line (Wilmelmus)

and on, and on and on ...

Triumph

Well known German politician [1898-1945] from previous century

Let me first tell you a personal story before we procede. My mother was from 1922, Dessau (former GDR, Eastern Germany). She was liberal/leftish/socialist and she always rejected the (semi-forced) Hitler Jugend membership.
My father was from Amsterdam. He was a born looser and a labour deportee to work in Nazi Germany as a baker (always usefull in those days). They fucked at her place in Dessau while his prison camp was bombed by the allies (there were not many survivors, he was the lucky guy).
After WW-II, around 1948, they got married and settled in Amsterdam. She had a nasty Mother-In-Law and they did some next full-fuck again around X-mess 1953. After nine months I popped out in early August 1954. That took them a full 5 years, but mum had an earlier miscarriage.
My mother did a full Freudian Psycho-Analisys for about 20+ years and at the same time did (kind off) taking care of me and my little sister. She was on multi psycho medicines too.
And my father always showed (or rejected) his love with gifts and money and by using his car. He turned out to be gay after he died. That's the biggest / greatest family secrect ... LOL
So, after all, I was left with some pretty creazy psycho WWII parents; and that definitely has some advantages ... ;)

When you stumble upon some of my Nazi sickies, please keep in mind this story.

Here is the amazing full 'Triumph Of The Will' movie from Leni Riefenstahl.

Duel

It's just one of the legendary car movies and also one of the early movies of Steven Spielberg. There are about a dozen great & legendary car movies [I posted some before] that I maybe post in a next project;
- Faster Pussycat - Russ Meyer
- Vanishing Point - Kowalski
- Rebel Without a Cause - James Dean
- Two Lane Blacktop - Dennis Wilson

When you have the patience to view this movie, it just gives you the creeps. A duel is about to begin between a man, a truck, and an open road. Where a simple battle of wits is now a matter of life and death.

tribal-fusion is a western style of belly dancing, this gal has some workshops for you

Here is a great 2CD mix of original 'Best Belly Dances in the World'. That means - from all the countries around the medditerranian sea (still not sure about the countries & styles).

There is a USA chapter about belly dancing, but that has to do with some post-feminist, tree-hugging, work-shop, look-at-my-fat-body, I-am-so-great-because-Oprah-Winfrey-told-me-so stuff.

I will maybe post some of these later NOT. Here is a nice tube with Shakira & Beyonce with some belly dance sounds.

Here are the belly originals;

Marisa Tomei is the stripper in 'The Wrestler'

You must know by now that I'm a terminal romantic. I just got some wild associations that made my USA hormones run again. 'The Wrestler' is Mickey Rourke's come back - and he deserves it - much hailed here in the press. And then 'The Boss' made a song for this movie. And then I found this special [1986, live, New York] version of 'Born in the USA'.
And then I remembered Mickey's 1986 movie 'Nine 1/2 Weeks' with Kim Basinger. Just all makes me drip ... ;)

Sophia, Constantinople; mixture of Byzantine and Orthodox Christianity

At last we arrived in bellydance country. Now I need your guidance. This style of music goes all over the south-eastern mediterranian; Turkey, Anatolia, Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Egypt and many other countries around the Mediterranean. There are definite regional and historical styles that we (from Amsterdam) can not keep apart. If you want to comment, please feel free.

Ian

Ian Dury, 1942-2000

Shit, he is pushing the daisies since 2000. This guy learned me how to use the English language. He made me aware that there are a zillions flavors; even the 'funny' racist Indian accents. The song from Essex (UK) is one of my all time favorites. You have to do a low-budget holiday and smell the locals to appreciate this song.

All crazyness on a sticky (let's get serious now). Together with The Kinks, Ian Dury is mentioned very often as most influentual for the recent UK independant (indie) youngsters. Just a few completely wild UK indie songs;
- Ian Dury & the Blockheads - Billericay Dickie (from Essex)
- Lily Allen - Alfie (her brother)
- The Kinks - I'm the Apeman (that's me)

Brel

I blogged Jaques Brel before. He is a great Belgian singer and has semi-god status for the few conny-sewers. You must like Jaques Brel (or not) for his intense emotional style of singing. He was also way above the Belgian French-Dutch dispute that now makes Belgium a 'failed-state'.

Wende

Wende deserves a more sexy picture

Wende Snijders is a Dutch hotty. She sings poppy-jazzy songs in English, Dutch and French language, with some sexy extra spice in her voice and her lyrics.

She does Jaques Brel covers - and you have to be very confident to cover this Semi-God of the Low-Lands. It's all from a trusted source, because my nephew (who provided the links) has a keen eye on Brel.

- Her 'Au Suivant' song is very Brel and very sexy.
- And what about her 'Come Together' cover.
- The 'De Nuttelozen van de Nacht' is a great Brel cover.
- Wende's 2008 full 'Chante!' album comes in two parts.

Before we are crossing the Aegean See, we strole around in Greece. This is Herodote territory. He had a great story about the 20 year adventures of King Sailor Odysseus of Ithaca.
Odysseus had himself bound to the mast of his ship by his crew while passing The-Island-Of-The-Sirens to avoid the temptations of their sexy sounds.
When he got home after 20 years, he killed all the lovers of his wife Penelope with a bow & arrow, so heavy, only he could handle it properly [just wondering what he did with his wife].
Wow - so great stories.

Here is a Great Greek Folk album; Domna Samiou - Kaneloriza. The nice thing is that the .rar expands into Greek language tokens which is totally incomprehandeable for non-Greek people. Here is just a sexy sounding song to get you some idea.

Kocani Orkestar, Macedonia

This album actually triggered me to do the Club Med series. The Kocani Orkestar is from Macedonia, a small country with borders to Greece. It's actually a Balkan country, semi-Mediteranian. They play an amazing mix of contemporary Jazz and their rootz music with lots of brass and wood. It just brought me down on my knees.

- This is a nice one from the tube to get you acquainted with these guys. I guess "bellyjazz" is not far from the spot.
- The Red Bull song sounds very sexy [17MB.] and you already can hear the bellydance music from Turkey and Lebanon.
- Their "Kocani Orkestar meet Paolo Fresu & Antonello Salis" album is big and comes in two parts of 90MB. each.

The Quaker Boys, 1928

I had the Canto Malavita album in mind for this blog. But now I remember that I posted it a some time ago. It's a very local and folkish type of music from Italy about 'Ndrangheta, Camurra and Mafia. There was recently an impressive (natural) movie about Napolitan Camurra that I still have to hunt down.
The (poor) south should be the opposite from the (rich) north of Italy, but PM Berlusconi recently showed that half of the Italians are still potential fascist criminals.
The Non Su' Lupu song really makes your feet move.
"Funny guys these Romans" (Obelix).
Enjoy the great music.

I Muvrini, March 2008

OK, here we go, starting with the isle of Corsica (south of France).
I made about five holiday trips in my earlier years to this great island. There I was treated with some life sings at my med-beach-bar in Calvi. So great memories. And I have another story up my sleeve about the restaurant there way up the Calvi citadel.

I Muvrini is a world-famous band from Corsica. They play local and traditional music in their own Corsican language, acapella, voices only, polyphonics etc. all great stuff.

1. I Muvrini - Fiaccule Di Speranza (acapella)
2. I Muvrini - Requiem (acapella)
3. I Muvrini - Rispondimi Ie (with choir & music)

And this song just grabs you by the balls / by the tits (volume up);
4. I Muvrini - Ecco Bella

Oh (btw) they made this Amsterdam song, probably a cover from Jaques Brel;
Amsterdam - by I Muvrini
Amsterdam - by Jaques Brel

I must make a blog about JB - he was so great

Lily Allen at the Solidays Festival - July 2007

She is yummy, she's from London and she didn't let me down - so far. This is her second album and that is always a creative hurdle for a 23 yo. (or any other artist). It's great poppy music again and funny lyrics. She got four out of five stars in my newspaper, marking her independent (indie) UK style and comparing her with Ian Dury & the Blockheads. Despite her media exposure she obviously found the time to make this album - the signs of a maturing pro.

Oh, in case you missed, I'm stoned in love with Lily ... LOL

The Fuck you very very very much song is about George Busch (a former USA president). The link to the album is from Italy (Thanks Italy).

Bob

Bob Dylan in an evening NFF concert

Bob was introduced for a broader audience by Joan Baez at the Newport Folk Festival in 1963. From then on his star got rising. This all black & white movie shows 'the making of' Bob Dylan in his NFF performances in 1963-1965, developing from a clumsy shy boy to a self-confident performer. This is a great 83:00 minute 'must have' music movie for all the the Dylanatics. It really made my eyes wet.

The movie comes in about 10x85MB. parts;

Buddy

Prototype of a 1950's Rock-and-Roll band; guitar (Fender Stratocaster), acoustic bass and drums. Bill Haley and his Comets were pretty much in the same setting.

A bit late, but it's always good to remember Buddy Holly (died in a plane crash on February 3, 1959, the day that the music died). He was defining for the next generation Rock & Roll musicians. Don McLean made the American Pie song about Buddy's death.

Buddy Holly (and his Crickets) made many more great songs then his few famous hits. And he basically composed most of them himself. Here is a 2xCD Ultimate album with 50 great songs;

This is a new project. I will post a Mediterranean music tour. I had already had some stuff on my HD and now I found some more. It is generally called 'world-music' and this strange music sometimes just grabs you right by the balls / tits. I try to restrict myself to the surroundings of the Mediterranean Sea to keep it a manageable project; and it includes some of my belly dance favorites ... ;-)

You have to Wiki, Google and find additional information for yourself, because it's all pretty exotic stuff (they are world famous in their village). Here are just a few songs to let you know what to expect;

[1] This is the 20MB./8:00min. live Gajda song from the Macedonian Kocani Orkestar. The hottest parts are in the end.
[2] This is the polyphonic song Fiaccule_Di_Speranza from the I Muvrini band from the isle of Corsica. I blogged them before but most links are dead.
[3] Belo Platno is from South Serbia and makes some great folk music. Here is their Gugu Tino song.

Duration: 81 minutes

"Berlin" was not very well received in the USA in 1973. But by now it goes as one of Lou's masterpieces.

Michal-94 from Canada wrote:
Lou Reed's brilliant musicianship and Schnabel's deft hand at directing combined with gorgeous rich sound makes this the finest rock and roll concert movie of my life. The huge band, including choir, back up singers,horns and strings held down by the greatest rhythm section ever were filmed and recorded such that Lou Reed's stellar performance and incredible poetry were allowed to shine in all their unique genius. Lou's vocal performance was brilliant in its execution and in the recording. His back up musicians were outstanding. The solo's, including the vocal solos, were delightful in their musicality and originality. Schnabel's sets and the his daughter's performance enhanced the visual pleasure created through simple unaffected camera work superbly shot and edited.

William

William of Orange & Nassau by Adriaen Thomasz Key, Mauritshuis, The Hague

William of Orange & Nassau (William the Silent) 1533-1584 is the founder of the Netherlands and the national hymn is all about him. I'm not sure what made us run, but we practiced 329 times the first and the sixth verse all night long. These two are usually played at official happenings.

The (one verse) music is from the Dutch Navy Band.

Wilhelmus van Nassouwe
Ben ick van Duytschen Bloedt,
Den Vaderland ghetrouwe
Blijf ick tot inden doet;
Een Prince van Orangien
Ben ick vry onverveert.
Den Coninck van Hispangien
Heb ick altijt gheeert.

Mijn schilt ende betrouwen
Zijt ghy, O Godt, mijn Heer.
Op U soo wil ick bouwen,
Verlaet my nimmermeer;
Dat ick doch vroom mag blijven
U dienaer t'aller stond
Die tyranny verdrijven,
Die my mijn hert doorwondt.

Drella

Some unique material from Lou Reed and John Cale
Songs For Drella (rare 1990 VHS)
Runtime: 55:00 min.
IMDb link: http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0364012/
Movie links: by Catfritz
Director: Edward Lachman
Cast: Lou Reed, John Cale

Some critc wrote:
"Songs For Drella" may be one of the most emotional pieces of music I have ever encountered. Not only is this disc a tribute to Andy Warhol, but it may also be the finest work of both Lou Reed, and John Cale. These songs feel so personal, one feels as if one is invading the very souls of each of these brilliant songwriters. While telling Andy's story they reveal much of themselves. Reed & Cale take turns covering every conceivable aspect of Andy Warhol's world. From art, work, style, childhood, fear, and envy. No stone is left unturned. One of the most haunting moments on this disc is "The Dream" by John Cale. A true masterpiece of inner terrors, and human weakness. Lou Reed shines on "Work", "Nobody But Me", and most notably on "Hello It's Me". Here we can hear Lou's sadness, and longing for a friend lost. "Songs For Drella" is heart wrenching, enlightened, and unimpeachable as music can get. Wether you're a fan of Lou Reed, John Cale, The Velvet Underground, or Andy Warhol; you will find beauty and truth in the music found on this emotional powder keg.
