Strad

In this blog, a Strad is as much a legend as a Fender Stratocaster. You can search my blog for 'Fender' or 'Zappa' to read the Jimi Hendrix stratocaster story.

Girls, girls, gils. Musical girls. No Rihanna, Madonna, Gaga or Beyoncé. My girls are of the classical type. No misunderstanding; every poppy girl went through thousands of hours of practice ands devotion. Respect for every body.

Why does a Stradimarius or a Giardini violin sound so great? They tried to replicate it many times. Nobody ever succeeded. It was not the lacker. The story goes, that around the 1700's there was a mini ice-age. Trees grew slower then. Especially on the north side of the Italian Alps. That's where the wood came from. I like this lovely 'broodje aap' story.

I'm not sure if it was French philosopher Pierre Bourdieu who stated that reality is all imagination and imagination is all reality. A deep thought, but not very practical.

How do you get this bunch of sexy women into one blog? Well, years and years of practicing. I blogged them all before. Enjoy these lucious lady's.

You must have noticed by now my classic kink. Here's a Beethoven clip from Valentina Lisitsa Beethovens's Moonlight Serenade.

Karsu [2]

Karsu Dönmez at the piano. (c) www.karsu.nl

Will you believe this coincidence? I'm now boasting. I once had an old "draft" blog about Karsu Dönmez. She is a good looking Turkisch-Dutch jazz singer-pianist. I misspelled her name as Karzu. I recently published this old blog with some You-tubes. She was 18 yo then. Now she is 22 yo and just got back from a tour in Indonesia. My today's newspaper has a full-page interview with her. They made a movie of her, shown at the IDFA (Amsterdam Documentary Film Festival).

Obvious weird, that I found this talent four years ago. She then was still playing the piano in Kilim, her father's restaurant.

What's the big deal, bro? Well, coincidence or not, but I spotted some girly talents, well before they became famous. When you dig deep into my blog you can find some examples. Search for 'Doutzen Kroes' Dutch super model and now a sound mother. My first mentioning her was also from years ago.

Karzu

A new kid on the block, is it for real or is it just her looks. She is an 18 yo. Dutch pianist and singer from Turkisch descent, discovered when she was 15 yo. and no CD yet, but she performed (was asked) in Carnagy Hall. She plays some jazzy-blues music on the piano. Recomended by my nephew as the Dutch Nora Jones (and you know what that means).

She has some tubes though;
- A short Dutch docu about Karzu and her family.
- Karzu plays Take-5 in a cafe
- Karzu plays a bluesy piano on Duth TV

Yes, I just like this multi-culty stuff ... ;)

I’m not their uncle or anything, but I am Dutch and I think they make great music. Read my lips - Einstein Barbie is hot in 2010.

Tatum

Art Tatum, 1909-1956, click to enlarge.

First, I was searching like frenzy for his music, because I only had a few tracks. Then I found eight big .flac albums. That is a bit too much to post (thank you very much poster). Here are just two normal .mp3 albums of Art Tatum;
- Art Tatum, Early Solo Tracks [1934 - 1937] 60MB.
- Art Tatum, This Album is called "1944" 30MB.

Art

Art Tatum, 1909 - 1956

(Repeating myself). At last, I scored a full album of Art Tatum. The best ever (fastest) jazz pianist in the world. There was a scientist, investigating the smallest sound change a man can hear; he measured it in 'Tatums'. Those are stories I like. All credits go to Astarte for providing the links.

Art Tatum, Hold that Tiger, Original Recordings (1933 - 1940), part1.rar 256kbs / 60MB.

Blakey

Art Blakey on a Swedish cover

Jazz Drummers is a small hobby of mine [most links are dead]. But I found this great Art Blakey album [Drums Around The Corner] from 1959. Quality is good, the music is cool and it comes in 2 x 85MB .rar parts.

Club Med X

Calvi's 13th century citadel

I promised you this one. The best place to finish your Club Med tour is 'Chez Tao', a classy restaurant up in the citadel of Calvi, Isle of Corsica (France). I visited the city a few times. The restaurant has some magic because of its many 1950's celeb visitors. It's now probably soaked with tourists.
You just let the music play from their homepage and you get the idea; classy, worldly, exotic, oriental, local, jazzy, magic. It's not easy to get a table [that's a good thing] but then - from the terrace - you get the ultimate mediterranean experience, with a superb view on Calvi bay.

Starke

Sabrina in concert, Amstelveen, NL, Friday, februari 27, 2009

Sabrina Starke is born in Paramaribo (Surinam) and now a Dutch soul and R&B singer & songwriter from Rotterdam. She is a fast rising star. She produced her first album 'Yellow Brick Road' with some friends but the marketing is recently taken over by the famous Blue Note label for the international exposure.

She doesn't like to be compared with Amy Winehouse (who does). The sounds from 'Do For Love' give you the reason for the AW comparison. This performance was her break-through here in the Netherlands.

Here is a January 2008 tube in a local Amsterdam club when she was not that famous yet.

[Credits go to my nephew for providing the album links]

Sonny

I blogged Sonny Rollins some time before but the links are dead now. I just read in my newspaper that there is a new CD out. It had good critics. A good reason for a new blog about Sonny.

Just three older tracks from this great jazz icon;
1. Body and Soul
2. Namely You
3. St. Thomas

Han

Han Bennink in a solo for the ICP reunion in 2003 - photo by Paul van Riel

Han Bennink (drums), Willem Breuker (wood & sax) and Misha Mengelberg (piano) were among the world famous free & avant-garde jazz artists in the Netherlands in the 1970's and 1980's. They founded and played together in the [1967-1973] Instant Composers Pool (ICP). I was very lucky to witness some of their live performances.

There are a lot of nice tubes with Han Bennink. Here are some clips from the Sting JazzKlubb.
Han Bennink at The Sting JazzKlubb - part1/3
Han Bennink at The Sting JazzKlubb - part2/3
Han Bennink at The Sting JazzKlubb - part3/3

And recently I found a complete 3-track album of Han; and that is pretty rare for his type of music. This is again top-notch Dutch culty culture. All credits go to the original uploader.
1. Bumble Rumble [8MB./4:20min.]
2. Spooky Drums [40MB./26:00min.]
3. Nerve Beats [27MB./16:30min.]

Hamp

The Hamp in concert

A few months ago I read an eye-witness story of the Lionel Hampton concert in the Amsterdam Concert Building in the mid 1950's. It was a great story and it must have been absolute mayhem where girls were barefoot trampling the empty beerbottles.

Mind you - this was 'state-of-the-art' niggah-music is those days (jazz) and probably an early warning for the wild 1960's that were to come. This track gives you a slight impression what must have happend.

Lionel [1908-2002] started his career in the 1920's on drums and he played with a lot of famous jazz performers. But when he switched to vibraphone and got his own band, his career and reputation really went ballistic.

And then this Bluesman poster came around with some great albums (many thanks Bluesman).
Here is a top quality recording from 1956. Pretty cool and easy jazz.
- the first track (18MB.)
- the 'May 1956' album, CD1
- the 'May 1956' album, CD2

The albums from Paris are a little bit 'hotter'.
- the first track (22MB.)
- the 'French New Sound' album, volume 1
- the 'French New Sound' album, volume 2

Buddy

Buddy Rich [1917-1987] was a famous jazz drummer. He seemed to be a pretty big asshole is his private life, but he could make some great sounds. A very nice guy [or woman] got me this amazing clip.

- the same clip on the tube is here
