Tips & Tricks

Almost a thousand entries on this blog – and then maybe I stop. An iPal asked be some help to start his own blog. This looks like a good moment to pass some knowledge that I collected the past few years. To spice-up your blog, you need some basic html-coding skills. Actually, some are not that basic. I wish here to thank my Nephew for all the evenings and nights that he showed me hands-on the html basics. I learned about 20+ tips and tricks. They can be found in the .txt file of this blog-entry (bottom). Here I will only show you a few that I used many times on this blog.

- First, this is a simple hotlink to a famous music forum.
This is a simple hotlink to Wikipedia, one of my favorite sites.
The Internet Movie Database (IMDb) is great for movie-lovers.

Here is an example of a 400 pix wide picture and a picture caption in a smaller font.

Birdman of Alcatraz (1962)

I get my pictures usually from a Google-search; but they must be persistent and free accessible. You can upload your own picture to Picasa.com (also from Google). You can scale pictures up and down with the "width" attribute. Scaling-up will give you some quality loss as is shown in this example; the original was about 350 pix wide and it was scaled-up to 400 pix.

When you scale-down a picture to fit your blog, you can add a "click here to enlarge" message, when the mouse hovers over the picture. Both URL's are typically the same.

Here is an example of what you can do with formatting tags in html. I use them very seldom because the text can look pretty shitty cluttered. I use the © Copyright tag with pictures when it is known. I think this is standard etiquette. The Trademark™ tag is rarely used on non-commercial websites.

You can control text with the font statement. This example uses size="3" face="verdana" color="yellow".

Here is a simple example of an (unordered) list. I don't like the big spacing;

  • Red

  • White

  • Blue

Another example with the font tag used;

  • Red

  • White

  • Blue

You can make more advanced lists (and tables) by replacing the Red/White/Blue text with hotlinks to sites.

Here is a last example of a smaller picture (half the blog size) with text wrapped around it. The picture is of William of Orange and the text is the text of the Dutch hymn. In this example you don't use a break between the picture and the text.

1. Wilhelmus van Nassouwe
ben ik, van Duitsen bloed,
den Vaderland getrouwe
blijf ik tot in den dood.
Een prinse van Oranje
ben ik, vrij onverveerd,
den Koning van Hispanje
heb ik altijd geëerd.

A nice element on your blog is a preview and a link to a YouTube clip. You can copy-paste the object embed code from YouTube. It's easy when you keep the aspect ratio right; about 400x320 pix for my blog. Here are the Dutch Women Volleyball team singing our National Hymn.

I skip the table.html for now; it's too complicated to explain; maybe later. You can do very well without it. I uploaded the html 8kb .txt coding file for this blog to several sites file. The file is called TTUN.txt (Tips and Tricks from Uncle and Nephew). Take your pick;
- From RapidShare
- From MegaUpload
- From HotFile
- From SendSpace
- From FilesMail
- From YourFileHost

DEAD LINKS

Bamboo, House of Dolls (1973)

Many movie links on this blog are dead when you read this blog. All files on this blog were posted at RS but we will change this policy soon. RS deletes files in case of DL inactivity. The fall-back is to search other uploaded files with the same movie title.

This nice search engine looks for RS and MU files. You really must visit the originating site to check for passwords – abou a 25% chance.

This full Bamboo movie in .rmvb format was found with the search engine. I'm sure you can find a lot of nice movies.

Russ

Ultra Vixens [1979] Movie Poster

I've not been very active lately on my blog. Sometime it looks like I'm just pumping movie-bytes all around the interweb. Probably I have some better things to do. So here is a better idea for all of us.

[1] Take a look at the movie-poster.
This is a 90 MB. file from RS with 100 X-rated movie posters. Mostly soft, some special or super.
Here is the same 100 poster file from HotFile.
Here is the same 100 poster file from MegaUpload .

[2] Look for the movie trailer.
Utube doesn't allow for X- or R-rated clips. They have some boob-monitor in place. But this trailer still looks alive.

This 12 MB. intro trailer says it all about Russ Meyer movies boobs, boobs, cars, boobs, boobs.

[3] Then decide to download the whole movie.
You (very often) can find the full movie in .rar format on RS or MU with this great search engine. You must visit the originating site to check if a password is required.

That's how I found this great Russ Meyer cult classic. The movie is ~90+ min. in about 10 x 120 MB. parts. PSW = None.

=== [I Almost Forgot]===

Pussycat is another great [1965] culty from Russ Meyer. All movie links are still hot. There were some rumors around that Quentin Tarantino wants to do a remake with Britney Spears (she declined). Now that Pablo Rodriguez got Jessica Alba out of her clothes (Machete 2010), I am not surprised by anything anymore. I'm sure you can find the cam's on the interweb when the time is there (yawn).

Cigarettes

Scene from Seville (Spain)

Another [1984] movie. It's situated around the cigarette factory in Seville (Spain) in the 19th century. It's all about love, passion, jealousy, bull-fights, a frivolous gypsy girl (Carmen), a handsome corporal (Don Jose) and a not so happy ending.

My father introduced me to this Carmen opera (thanks Pa) and it made a firm impression on me since - for its story, its catchy songs and its sexy undertones.

Georges Bizet was a French music composer from Paris in the Romatic style. So, here is his best story and greatest (last) opera. Not sure if he was ever into Andalusian territory, but he did his research; I've been in Seville and saw the factory with my own eyes. It's a great building and its still there, but it has other usages today. The opera is so great.

Just to warm you up, try some clips from the Tube;
- Carmen overture with some Chilean 'balls'
- Sexy 'Habanera' song with English subtitles
- 'Toreador' from Dmitri & choir is impressive

'La Plaza de Toros de Ronda' (~100 miles SE of Seville) is THE bull-fight-temple in southern Spain. The BF scenes in this movie are from there and they are awesome. I've never seen any 'arty' bull-fight scenes in any movie; here is your chance.

Not for the faint-of-heart. When the toreador conquered the bull, he cut of his balls as a trophy. Ernest Hemingway was a bull-fight-fan. He is one of my heroes, maybe a substitute father (sorry Pa). Spinning around again. I did a holiday tour in southern Spain and I kinda fell in love with this region.

Take a look at this Ronda bull-fight movie . There are A- and B- category Toreadors; same as in Football / Soccer. This B-clip is very instructive for beginners. The Toreador is the star of the show. Some Picadors pinch the bull with some nasty spears to make him jumpy (always a HIM). The final scene is, that the Toreador will stab the bull with his sable between the shoulder-blades down through his heart. The bull then goes down, and he can take his balls. Finally the bull-corpse is dragged away by two horses.

George Bizet(1838–1875)did his Carmen opera a year before he died. Bizet now lies on the celeb-only cemetery Père Lachaise in Paris. I've been there too and it was an existentialist experience.

Bizet, Carmen, 1984, Spanish and English subtitles. Director: Francesco Rosi. Cast: Julia Migenes (Carmen), Placido Domingo (Don Jose).

Land

Photo (c) Ansel Adams

The 'Gulf-stream Waters' made me post this one. Because it is such a mess over there, even I (Urp) am worried. Besides that (as a runner-up for the 4th of July) this is the best ever PR song for the USA. American children should sing this song every morning in primary schools. I even don't mind if this will become the USA National Hymn (oh, what silly thoughts again);

- The original is from Woody Guthrie.
- This is a Los Lobos version.
- Pete Seeger and Bruce Springsteen.

Cecilia

Cecilia Bartoli is an opera singster and she has nothing to do with this blog.

If this is a Jess Franco film (his name is in the openings) it is one of his best. You never know with this serial-director; he made over 150 movies by now and still going strong. Cecilia (1982) is 100% about skin, nudity and fornication.

The imdb rating of 2.0 is a real recommendation.

Some fan wrote:
After being gang raped and then having sex with her husband, Cecilia (Vicky Adams) discovers that marital sex is a lot better when the relationship is open.

This is an extremely rare film from Jess Franco but it's really a straight love story and not just a sleazy effort.

Franco treats the subject matter with full respect and tries his best to tell an honest story about marriage and the film remains interesting throughout, although not too much really goes on.

[all great bullshit, of course]

The totally-good-for-nothing scene with nude Cecilia on a white horse running along the beach is the best part of the movie. Actually all scenes are totally-good-for-nothing with nude Cecilia running around in it. That's why this movie is so great.

Honda

Japanese director Ishiro Honda is The Godfather of many Godzilla movies. The series started in 1954 and is still running. There was a 50th anniversary movie in 2004. You can find some Godzilla entries on my blog. Instead of posting another episode, I will post some (re/search) links for you that are interested.

The legend originates from the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. This triggered a gene-mutant-monster called Godzilla
and some more of his angry friends.

This is a nice-to-know background story to appreciate these flicks. It's probably a kind of way for Japan to cope with these defining national events (...).

Production quality from the Tokyo Toho studios is comparable with Hollywood; high. And the movies are always very entertaining.

The Godzilla movies are under-estimated and kind of hidden-cult in the west and that is a shame. They are on the same level as (say) the Hollywood 'Batman' or 'Spiderman' series; though most of these Godzilla movies were from the 1950's and 1960's.

I am a fan of Honda's Godzilla.

Parker

Bob Hoskins

The Butler-Driver-Gardener gets emotionally involved with Her Ladyship; a well known romantic theme since "Lady Chatterley's Lover". I always suspected a behind-the-scenes relation between Parker and Penelope .

Bob Hoskins (George) gets involved with his Black Ladyship in this 1986 'Mona Lisa' movie. George is out of prison and agrees to chauffeur hi-class call-girl Simone (Cathy Tyson). At first they hate each other, but things can change for the better or for the worse. When Simone asks George to find a friend of hers that she lost contact with, he dives into the sordid underbelly of the UK sexprotution world.

This film hit me right between the eyes when I saw it the first time. It still is impressive. Bob Hopkins and Michael Caine are among my favorite UK actors.

'Do you have a big white rabbit with long floppy ears?' (05:50 minutes). That quote must be inspired by the Monty Python heritage. But for the remaining part this is a great movie.

Some fan wrote;
This was an unexpected treat, knowing next to nothing about it, save for the fact that I admire Bob Hoskins, Michael Caine, and Robbie Coltrane all. Cathy Tyson was merely ok in the film & sadly Coltrane is pretty much wasted as Thomas. But both Hoskins and Caine are superb. Sadly, in America at least, Bob Hoskins is known to the non-cinema masses as merely Eddie from "What ever happened to Roger Rabbit?" & "That guy from Hook". This is a shame, as he's an amazing actor.
