Lace

Just another 1978 B-movie. It was this lovely poster that draw my attention. The poster-trailer-imdb combination should give you the full picture. I FF viewed this movie - and it indeed has some spice.

This 87:00 min. movie comes in about 7x100 MB. parts;

Russ

I would have sworn that I did this Russ Meyer movie on this blog, because I remember it very well and because it's so hilarious.
But I could not find it. To make up, here is his 1979 Ultra Vixens movie. Russ is Ultra-Cult. He is fixated on super breasted girls and then finds a 'story' to make a movie about them. NO, not about girls, it's all about boobs.

To spare you all the downloading fuss, the first 'coffin sex scene' is also the best part of this movie. It is about 5:30 min. in a 55 MB. file. You should notice the Nazi German music that makes this movie completely crazy and my nephew horny.

If and when you like, just DL 'Beneath the Valley of the Ultra Vixens'.

Show

Robocop was an iconic movie from 1987 by Paul Verhoeven. In a later interview Paul disclosed his relegious feelings. Robo was a kind of Jezus; He died and He resurrected and He kicked ass. Officer Anne Lewis could be Maria Magdalena.
Paul is also a Dutch leftisch liberal and his droppings always gives you mixed feelings.

Paul recently wrote a book about Jezus Christ - but I think he's gone nuts; don't take it too serious (I'm sure Paul will agree).

There are Robocob fan-sites around and it looks there is a Robocob-IV coming in 2011.

This blog actually should be about Paul's 1995 Showgirls. I've seen the movie and it's all about sleazy erotica – so great. The semi-cult status of this movie is because it received a Razzy and Paul came to the event personally to pick it up. I will get the movie-links sometime.

This fan did some extra effort to describe the movie from his pov. His story is actually better than the movie itself ... ;)

You know the old story of the father who caught his son smoking cigars and locked him in the closet and made him smoke the whole box? The idea, I suppose, was that prolonged exposure to something bad will, psychologically, turn off all urges to repeat that same offense. "Horse Pucky!" I decried, not believing such a tale could possibly be true . . . until I saw Showgirls. I like sexy naked women as much as the next guy but after this movie was jiggled in my face for two and a half hours, I didn't want to see another naked body for about the next two years (Freud would have eaten me alive).

I doubt that the movie had the same effect on Joe Esterhauz, the "author" from whose pen this sheepdip flowed. Not long after the movie came out, I was watching one of those "making of" specials and Esterhauz said that the movie was a hard-boiled expose on the empowerment of women (yeah . . . okay). The special boasted that this was a recurring theme throughout his work which includes Basic Instinct, Flashdance, Jade and Sliver. I guess that Joe and I must have different ideas about female empowerment because his idea seems to be to portray women as hookers, strippers, killers and raging lesbian predators (anything outside those four categories and they're fishfood). He apparently thinks that their best activities for empowerment are knives, lesbianism, sex for cash, violence and nasty sneers (Mr. Freud, you would have had to put overtime in on this one).

In Showgirls, the women could be any one of these things. Violence is so much an afterthought to their personalities that it comes out in their speech, their clothes, their stares, their dancing and even their collegine stuffed lips. It oozes from every pore and even comes out in a scene at a fast food restaurant when the heroine furiously squirts ketchup all over her french fries. For me that scene proved a commentary on the film because, well, you know how when you squeeze a plastic ketchup bottle it makes that loud flatulant noise? You get the idea.

I think Joe knows that he has a lousy script because he keeps throwing in deterrents so that we hopefully won't realize that the script is featherweight. Deterrence like nudity for example which got the film an NC-17 but should have been an NC-95 so no one would have had to sit through it. The characters reside in Vegas but the movie might as well have been staged in a nudist colony. Nearly every scene is littered with wall to wall skin, whether the scene calls for it or not. They dance naked, they sleep naked, they eat naked, they talk while they're naked. The movie is so jam packed with nakedness that the sexy parts are when the women put their clothes back on! Esterhauz turns out the be the only boob attached to this project that is not on screen.

The movie follows the destiny of a walking bag of hostility named Nomi Malone (played by Elizabeth Berkley whose acting comes in two flavors: Stare blankly and blink) who has killer looks and the brain of an appliance bulb. She's a leather-clad bad-chick from the wrong side of the tracks who hitches to Vegas to become a dancer. How are we to be sure that she's bad? She wears leather, carries a switchblade and cakes on enough make-up to make Tammy Faye wince.

Perhaps, she figures, all that badness makes her a human shield against that cold and unfeeling landscape of bitter failure and resentment known as Las Vegas. When she gets there she finds that Vegas is, well, a cold and unfeeling landscape of bitter failure and resentment.

Everyone in the movie approaches Nomi like a lion smacking it's chops. Everyone hates each other (which makes us hate them and therefore the movie) but Esterhauz explains that in this hellish world of hostility and sexual vengence Nomi learns a lesson in morality (Really? I must have blinked).

Before the sun sets on her first day in Vegas, Nomi makes a new best friend, becomes her roommate and gets a job at a strip club - and she's STILL ticked off!! The roommates situation is just an excuse for pseudo-semi-sorta-kinda halfway attempt at some lesbian schianangins hinted at because Nomi and Molly sleep naked in the same bed. Read that again and keep in mind that they've only known each other for one day.

Nomi has dreams of getting a gig with a jiggle and light show called "Goddess" which we are told is the hottest show in town (Yeah, maybe if it were the ONLY show in town). I can't figure why she's so eager to get a part in this thing. IT'S TERRIBLE!! It's like a bizarre tribal dance in which the dancers contort in front of feux volcanos and do spidery things with their fingers. It's like a strange pseudo-seductive dance on Star Trek only the performers lack the decency to look humiliated.

It was also at this point in the movie, when Nomi was watching this mish-mash of tribal garbeldy-gook, that I began to realize just what Showgirls really is - It's Stage Door in stiletto heels. This movie, I realized, is one of those showbiz fables about the callow youth learning the ups and downs and pitfalls of a life on the stage. I waited patiently for the moment when she would push the star of the show down the stairs so that the star would have to be replaced and lo and behold she did! That leads to my favorite moment as the star writhes and groans, a choreographer grabs her knee and squeezes. She screams and he brilliantly concludes "It's her knee"

The show, like the movie is dull, real dull. So dull that you begin looking in the backgrounds for other things to look at. The sets for the show and indeed the entire movie are a hammered collection of sharp, shiny things that glitter in the background and I guess are suppose to make things look sexy. At one point, I was so bored that I began staring at those sets and imaging how the pieces could be cut up and used for Junkyard Wars.

Oh My Gawd

INTERDIT AUX MOINS DE 16 ANS

With a little help from my friend (many thanks Hartmut) we can enjoy this iconic full-movie. Curd Jürgens and Jean-Louis Trintignant were already established actors in 1956. And then Roger Vadim pulled Brigitte Bardot from his sleeve. This culty movie might well be the start of the BB legend.

The mambo dance is the most sexy and defining scene of this movie. Please mark – this is a 1956 movie – and it has some more pretty sexy stuff in it.

Renee Soutendijk

(Sorry, Dutch again). 'Spetters' is a Dutch 1980 movie from Paul 'Robocop' Verhoeven. This was the time in the Netherlands when all Dutch movies were considered 'inferior' by definition. Still not sure what this national mass-maso-kink was about. Paul relocated to the USA and did some great movies there.

Paul always puts a lot of sex, nudity and/or violence in his movies.
In this early movie he is very moderate. The movie gives a good impression of typical non-urban Dutch lifestyle. Boys, girls, beers, bikes, sex, all in a pretty raw, natural and casual style.

Renée Soutendijk (Fientje) is one of the most sexiest Dutch celebs.
I just wonder where she is right now. Jeroen Krabbé appears for a few seconds; he is the hate-guy for my nephew.

The Dutch 'Normaal' rock-band is 'über-cult' for Dutch non-urban gut feelings. I should explain. The Netherlands is a pretty homogenuous country. The mid-west is the urban core of the country. But there are still some local habits and cultures in the surrounding ara. Normaal is one of the best and most extreme.

The Spetter story: Three members of a Dutch motor-bikers club are ardent fans of world champion Gerrit Witkamp. They all have the hots for Fientje, a gold-digger who runs a snack bar from a mobile home with her brother Jaap. First she seduces Rien, who has the potential to become the next WC, after negotiating 10% on a sponsor contract she gets him trough a sports journalist, but dumps him shortly after a road accident lands him in a wheelchair for life. Jaap, who claims to be the new coming man, but ridiculed by Gerrit and the reporter, is told to come back once he has a future to offer her. Mechanic Eef, whose dad, a hardcore-protestant farmer, still beats him mercilessly, tempts her to emigrate together to Canada, with money he robs in the gay red lantern district, but is then raped himself by Jaaps mates.

Bad

Hurray, the Swedes have arrived [1978]

Germany (before and after the war) is a country with some cultural contrasts. Besides Heinrich Heine, Reiner Maria Rilke, Georg Friedrich Hegel, Reiner Werner Fassbinder, Ludwig van Beethoven, Lenie Riefenstahl u.v.a. they grew Oswald Kolle, Hermann Hess, Tiroler Höschen, Schulmädchen Reports and ... this movie.

The rating is a bit too high for my worst-ever collection. Viewing it now for the third time [NOT] it is actually a clever made movie.

I could not resist to put this on my blog. The credits really go to the extensive production efforts [I'm serious] of this bad, bad, very great movie [serious too].

It's so bad that it's (almost) great. You have to be carefull with this label but the intro is a culty piece of art on its own.

Did you noticed the names; they look pretty fancy. Cult all over.

Never mind the full movie. The 3:00 min. 30 MB. intro says it all.
And a subtitle file is included.

Randy Newman, 1979, Rotterdam, the Netherlands

The joy of an e-pal is that he pushes buttons and makes you do things that you wouldn't normally do. Hartmut made me hunt for this Randy Newman concert with the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra.

It may very wel be the ultimate Randy Newman live concert video registration. The 25 vids are a Dutch TV production from 1979,
so quality is OK. I don't know of any other (CD or DVD) registration.

I was struck by the great harmony between Randy and this big orchestra that always stayed with its supurb supporting role.

All files were snatched from the Tube and all had about 5.000 hits.
I like to think that we are into something rare and culty here. The files are in .mp4 (iPod) format and they play fine in my audio and video players. All 25 .mp4 vids/songs come in about 3x95MB. files;

Rebel

“The unforgettable image of James Dean, hunched in his black overcoat,
bearing the weight of a generation on his shoulders.”
Adam Gopnik, The New Yorker
This iconic photograph was taken by Dennis Stock, who died this week at age 81.

This picture reminded me to hunt for Rebel without a Cause. I forgot to look in the obvious places – my own favorite movie links. Multi talented Nathalie Wood is Judy. She also did (not sang) the Maria part in the 10 Oscar West Side Story 1961 musical.

On the other hand, in 1966 she won the Harvard Lampoon Worst Actress of the Year Award. She was the first performer in the award's history to accept it in person.

Sorry, this blog is about James Dean.

Jim Stark (James Dean) is the new kid in town. He has been in trouble elsewhere; that's why his family has had to move before. Here he hopes to find the love he doesn't get from his middle-class family. Though he finds some of this in his relation with Judy, and a form of it in both Plato's adulation and Ray's real concern for him, Jim must still prove himself to his peers in switchblade knife fights and "chickie" games. The climax of the movie is the fatal car race toward the seaside cliff.

Op Marsch door Amsterdam - Cover

(Sorry Dutch again). In the sixties all kind of strange things were going on in Amsterdam. I could make another 12-16 blogs about that. The Provo movement was most remarkable. The word is derived from 'provocation'. I was too young to join them then (shit).

Young people got arrested for handing out raisins to the public. You could make officer Grumpky really jumpy with just a little effort. Those were the days my friend.

Ex-Anti-Smoke-Magician Robert Jasper Grootveld was a big hit in those days. His performances at Het Lieverdje on The Spui square are still legendary among the old and elderly here in Holland.

And then ... I found this album with marches from the Amsterdam Police Band, also from the 1960's. I'm sure you recognize the differences in culture. With their 'Alte Kameraden' they were almost proto-fascist in tone. No wonder young people got upset by the authorities.

The full album is about 120MB. and has 12 tracks.

Rudi

Rudi Carell - not pretending

(Sorry Dutch again). Rudi Carell [1934-2006] was a Dutch entertainer. He was not well appreciated in the Netherlands, so he relocated to Germany where he got his own TV show and his biggest rewards.
He died in 2006 from lung cancer and he talked openly about it.

Rudi was the Dutch entry for the Eurovision Song Contest in 1960, London. He finished 12th out of 13 with 2 points.

His Mouse-in-the-Mill song from 1965 is a rare and culty kiddy song.
I was looking for it for more than a year now. The Amsterdam girls choir are De Damrakkertjes – they gave me an itchy feeling already in those days.

In 1987, Rudi (in)famously caused a diplomatic row between Germany and Iran with a sketch in which veiled women threw their undies at someone dressed like Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khomeini.
The outraged Iranian government responded by expelling two German diplomats and closing the Goethe Institute in Tehran.

I like Rudi.

Eddy

Torment of the Flesh, 1965

Eddy Saller is an Austrian sleaze director from the 1960's. You would expect Italian sleaze from the 1970's on this blog. That is why Eddy is an exceptional and rare find [with many thanks to my e-pal].

Die Geißel des Fleisches (Torment of the Flesh) from 1965 was his first movie. This is just amazing B&W and kinky footage about a long tall handsome silent serial killer. This is Austria 1965 and the movie was an absolute shocker for those people. It still is very enjoyable with lots of nudity and crazy sex scene.

Don't talk cheap about Eddy – he did some work for the Comedian Harmonists in 1997 ; the best German pre-WWII close harmony singers. Ein Bisschen Leichtsinn is their most sexy song from the 1930's.

The Torment movie comes in about 8x100 MB. parts;

Shameless, 1968

A fan on imdb gave a recommendation for 'Shameless';

Yes, this is a terrible movie. Is it so terrible that it could be looked upon as great? I contemplated on that. But I would say no. It is just a terrible movie. Terrible directing, terrible script, terrible acting, terrible... well, terrible anything.

Teach

I think we have a record here. The Wild Women of Wongo was rated 1.9/10. This Teacher & Pupils Get Raped by a Biker Gang did a massive 1.7/10 but now it's back up on 2.5/10. When you're into Worst-Movies-Ever, this 1975 flick is a must-have.

A pretty young teacher and four of her pretty students take a minibus to some Navajo ruins, little suspecting another kind of ruin waits. A trio of bikers begins to flirt with the gals, and when their bus breaks down, they helpfully tow the vehicle to a deserted shack. The chief biker, Al, chews up the scenery, kills folks, and rips off the teacher's clothes before raping her. The poor schoolgirls are also in for their share of abuse.

Paul

Sharon Stone – interrogation scene - Basic Instinct - 1992

(Sorry, Dutch again, with English subtitles). This is a documentary style movie about Dutch movie history. It features some of the most famous (and cheeky) Dutch movie directors; Paul Verhoeven is probably most famous. In his movies he often combines sex, blood & gore with Christian themes . (RoboCop was his JC proxy).

Paul did some very successful movies and he also was the first director who showed up to pick up his Razzie for his 1995 'Showgirls'.
Both Paul and the movie have some cult status now.

Most of the footage in this movie was shot at the 2005 Cannes film festival but you also can see many flash-backs from the 1980's; drinking and talking with Wim 'Blue Movie' Verstappen. This is a must-have for all Paul Verhoeven fans.

I like his quote: "The sooner we admit our capacity for evil - the less apt we are to destroy each other"

Showgirls 1995
RoboCop 1987

The movie comes in about 7x100MB. parts.
