Paul
Rutger Houwer and Jennifer Jason Leigh
You must have noticed that I did some recent blogs about Paul 'Robocop' Verhoeven. This is because he is Dutch and he is nuts.
Look at his filmography and you see some remarkable movies.
We must thank producer Rob Houwer for giving Paul a chance in his early career. Dutch movies were not taken serious in those days (and I partly agree).
Paul's early Dutch movies deserve more attention. That's why I'm blogging these here.
Rutger Houwer is also Dutch and he also relocated to the USA and made some great performances there. He is now giving 'master-classes' in acting in the Netherlands.
Here is another early Paul-and-Rutger movie from 1985 and loaded with sex and religion. The story is located in the European middle ages, around 1500. A kind of Robin Hood (Rutger Houwer) takes and rapes a noble woman (Jennifer Jason Leigh). She enjoyes the few weeks but in the end she returns to her noble status. The rape scene is typical for the early Dutch Paul movies; sex and violence.
A fan on imdb noticed Paul's religious inclination (thank you fan);
This is one of the most raw, refreshing and UN-Hollywood movies you will ever see. It's truly a classic, and it stands alone, because nothing like it has been done before. The movie is invariably entertaining throughout, and it contains so many fresh ideas from Verhoeven that it really has you saying 'wow' an awful lot. The rape scenes that everybody freaks out about in their reviews aren't so horrible....they get they're point across but aren't TOO sexually explicit. Whats nice to see if you can call it that, is that the rape is real, and horrible, its not meant to be provocative like it would be in a Hollywood movie, not that i'm a fan of any rape scene, not at all...but at least this is genuine. The performances aren't spectacular or anything, but they are far far from weak. After one viewing this is one of my favorite films, and I recommend it very highly to you.
This film should also be of interest to the highly religious because of all the imagery in it. Verhoeven is known for religious imagery and this film is full of it. It's very Christian in its themes, not that the characters are big in practice, but the movie has a lot of religious points to make.
Story: When an attempted political coup in Northern Italy fails, most of the mercenaries hired by the coup leaders disperse. Not so Martin (Rutger Hauer), who intends to rob his duplicitous former employer Arnolfini (Fernando Hillbeck). Martin is able to raise his own army by using a stolen religious artifact as a talisman. He later kidnaps Arnolfini's prospective daughter-in-law Agnes (Jennifer Jason Leigh), who saves herself from a gang rape by feigning eternal devotion to her captor. Weeks of plunder and destruction follow, with a deadly plague thrown into the stew.
The gang-rape scene stars Rutger Houwer fucking Jennifer Jason Leigh. This type of sleaze Paul only could do in Europe but never not in the USA.
The full movie comes in about 10x95 MB. files;
