William the Silent, father of the Netherlands [1533-1584]
Amazing how little songs there are about Dutch history. The 80 year war [which we won] was pretty defining for our great little country. Singer Rob de Nijs and songwriter Lenneart Nijgh made some nice Dutch songs about this period [1600's].
