Popcorn
The Videls
Popcorn is a US music style from the early 1960's named after "The Popcorn", the dancing in Vrasene, Waasland, Belgium where this music was first played. It opened in 1969 and it was namend after James Brown's hit Mother Popcorn. Warning: Popcorn (sweet) differs very much from James Brown (hot).
It is a (slow) danceable mix of soul, latin, chachacha, highschool-rock, doo-wop, ska and r&b (says Ruud). It also has lots of violins, pianos and Phil Spector's 'wall-of-sound' in it. It is a very popular style in Belgium. Some samples;
- Say It Again - Ruth Brown
- Don't Come Crying - The Frontiers
- The Wonder Of Your Love - Bobby D'Fano
Here is a Top-100 album (you can just unrar the .7z file);
