The Bamboo House of Dolls [Nu ji zhong ying, 1974/1976] is one of the most legendary WIP flicks ever made. The "World of Exploitation Films" called it "the ultimate chain-gang kung-fu caper flick". And another leading cult movie website dubbed it: "a great piece of Hong Kong filth that just can't be beaten". Some special attention for Chinese born director Chih-Hung Kwei [1937-1999], Indonasian born martial arts hero Lieh Lo [1939-2002] and [1945] Danish born sex kitten Birte Tove.
There is a confusing WW-II plot about hidden gold and some anti-Japanese propaganda, but the main focus of this sexploitation epic is on rape, beatings, catfights, escape attempts and torture. Mostly too extreme and over-the-top to be taken seriously. This Hong Kong shocker didn't hit the cinema until the 1980's, six years after it was produced.
