Taxi
Did I ever blogged this movie before? I don't think so, because it's so over the top gory that I hardly dared to watch it myself. This was a sleeper for some years on my hard disk until I remembered my one night stand with this blond Danish taxidermist - you bet I had mixed feelings, because I saw this film before the stand.
Taxidermy (Greek for "skin arrangement") is the art of mounting or reproducing animals for display (e.g. as hunting trophies) or for other sources of study. Taxidermy can be done on all species of animals including humans - and that's just what's happening in this movie.
This outtake is from Joe d'Amato's 1979 movie 'Beyond the Darkness'. The story is about a taxidermist who just lost his young wife. He digs her up, fresh from the grave, and tries to preserve her. His taxi skills are then spelled out in a long and gory scene. I warned you before - Joe d'Amato is a Sultan of Sleaze - but he is no fool. In this movie the female housekeeper is the accomplice and the poor young witness is delt with in an appropriate way.
The clip is about 33:00min. and comes in 4x80MB. parts

Fight
Day Of The Fight, Stanley Kubrick, 1951
I promised you to post some more from this director when I found some. The 'Day Of The Fight' [1951] is a black-and-white movie about boxing. It's a short 16:00 minute film in docu stile by 23 yo. Stanly Kubrick, one of his early works.
You don't have to be a fan of Stanley to like this clip. It gives you an inside view in the way-of-life of American boxing. The movie comes in two 90MB.parts; .avi.001 and .avi.002.

Time
NASA picture of Planet Earth
I was just thinking [nothing else to do] - what happened with time?
It just crossed my mind when I looked at my concert blog of Cyndi Lauper in Amsterdam. It's now four weeks ago, but it seems like ages. We had a long and great build-up for the concert, buying the tickets weeks before, spending a lot of bandwith with e-mails and exchanging songs, viewing her video's the night before and had a great concert at the evening. Within four to six hours after the concert the first tubes were online; we very much enjoyed the clips in the next couple of days. And then (poof) it was all gone and we were running for our next e-mail conversations and internet experiences.
I just want to stand stil for a moment and look back at this concert and the Time-After-Time song. Someone made these nice footages of the concert (clip #3 is the Time song);

Stone
Joss Stone in concert 2004 (c) Debbie Vanstory
The smoking gun: my nephew picks his singers my their looks. With Joss Stone, he was right on her singing and her looks. Joss Stone is a multi-awarded, liberal, UK born [1987] soul and R&B singer-songwriter. There are also a lot of glamour pictures and interviews around - and that's not only the achievement of the paparazzi. Joss is now way in front of Amy.
On the other hand, I don't think my nephew likes her leftish liberal activities;
- She has done a lot of charity work, including environmental, animal, Aids and gay issues. In 2005 she was voted the World's Sexiest Vegetarian
- In 2008 she was asked personally by Barack Obama to write and record a song for his presidential campaign. The 'Governmentalist' song will appear on her fourth studio album, expected around April 2009
- The 'You Had Me' song was Stone's most successful single on the UK Singles Chart to date
- The '2007 AVO session in Basel' is a great live registration [RS, 125 MB, 11 tracks]

Avocado
Cannibal Women in the Avocado Jungle of Death [1989]
I have a favorite link in my browser on the very top of my movie tab. That means that is was one of the first movies that I liked. It is so crazy that it is coined Campy and Über Kult many times on the web.
Of course it depends on the critic and his story that makes you hunt for a movie. This guy had a great story about the movie. And they put a lot of effort into their great site too.
Maybe the hallark of intentionally campy movies, are the hillarious dialogues - you can find a lot of them here again

Georg
Georg Friedrich Händel [1685-1759] by Balthasar Denner [1727]
He is somewhat underestimated but he (after all) was Ludwig van Beethoven's rolemodel. GFH made some nice operas that were newly interpreted by Danielle De Niese. I just stumbled upon his Fireworks music that he made for some court festivity when he was at the service of the English king. This is just great and splattering baroque music.

Tex
Rocky, Tex Tucker and Pedro
In the late 1950's I was on my belly under the table looking at this hypnotizing series [silly me]. You just have to see to believe. In the first episode Tex Tucker gets his magical self-shooting pistols from a Big Chief as a thank-you for taking care of a little indian boy. Tex is the good-guy, Pedro and Fernando are the the bad-guys [just in case you missed].
Among all puppet series, this was one of the first and one of the best; with the stupid-simple-clear-cut characters, the music, the suspense, the action and all. Notice the crazy English accent of 'Rocky' - Tex's horse. Very clever made. The credits at the end are a little joy on their own.

The Royal Concertbuilding Orchestra [RCO, Amsterdam, conductor = Mariss Janssons] was just voted as the best orchestra in the world by UK 'Gramaphone' magazine.
The Berliner Philharmoniker [conductor = Simon Rattle] was second and The Wiener Philharmoniker [conductor = invited every year] were third. There were also a lot of USA orchestra's on the list.
The RCO is now celibrating their 120th anniversary and they put 10 downloadable symphonies on their website [after a free registration]. When you are into classical music, this is a must have.
The recordings are available until the 31st of December 2008.

Juliana
Queen Juliana of the Netherlands [1909-2004]
We had some local fuss about a 'Miss Rasputin' at the Dutch court in the 1950's, having a bad influence on queen Juliana. All well known, and the story only holds for about 3 days in the village newspaper. Juliana was a softy but a goody - I luv her.
Her daughter Beatrix is a beautifull bitchy queen, with probably the biggest tits of all Euro royalty. Trix hand-picked her daughter-in-law, also great tits.
I'm not sure this is urban-legend, but the story sounds great;
Queen Juliana once gave a classy banquet for some African King. There were those little bowls of water to clean your fingers. Of course the King didn't know this Euro gig and he took a sip from his bowl. To avoid public embarresment Juliana took a sip of her bowl too.
Back to business. Maxima is our Dutch princess - the wife of our next king. She is a brown eyed girl from Argentina and she spoke the Dutch language in an amazing short time. She was hailed by all the Dutch crowd, dispite her father's history. Her wedding was a great show and really a tear-jerker.

Again
Cyndi Lauper again. This New York woman is so fabulous self-confident, great and cool in all her performances. She did many remarkable concerts and she is also a champion for the gay & lesbian cause.
I just love this clip from Paris, 1987 where she is totally in control of herself, her band and her audience.

Oh my gawd, my little nephew poked me again. Yes, the one with the minor brain damage that picks his singers by their looks. Artistically speaking it is again just background noise in my local pizzeria. But when you focus, her looks and her sighs are really inviting.

There are only a handfull of movies that I viewed without using the Fast Forward. Well, that is somewhat exaggerated. Of course I enjoyed many more movies. But these few left some eternal impression only after seeing them once on TV or so in my younger years. I'm not sure where, but I saw some impressive examples of Method Acting by Marlon Brando or James Dean. And it is probably also no coincidence that all these films are in black-and-white.
My top movies;
- Citizen Kane [1941, Orson Welles]
- Casablanca [1942, Humphrey Bogart, Ingrid Bergman]
- The Third Man [1949, Orson Welles]
- Rebel Without a Cause [1955, James Dean, Nathalie Wood]
- On the Waterfront [1954, Marlon Brando] is perhaps my earliest recollection of a great movie.
The Waterfront Crime Commission is about to hold public hearings on union crime and mob infiltration. As workers are turned against each other, Terry Malloy inadvertently participates in the murder of fellow man Joey Doyle. Union boss Johnny Friendly orchestrates the murder along with other illegal dockside activities, aided by Terry's brother Charley. Terry begins to feel his conscience. When Joey's sister Edie sees more in Terry than he sees in himself and Father Barry urges him on, Terry reviews his past and begins to regain responsibility for his actions.
And then I stumbled upon the links to this movie. All credits go to the original uploader.

I blogged some USA V8 songs before. Cars are romantic and also about testosterones - it's hard to keep your braincells and hormones in-synch.
My eyes realy got wet from these Japanese guys. It looks [not sure] they make pencil drawings from great cars without using a computer. This site is dedicated to some of these great Japanese Masters in the Art of Automotive Illustration. Take a stroll and be amazed.

Wild
The Wild Women of Wongo, 1958
Some people just make fun about this movie and rating it less than 2 out of 10. Other people (including me) are just trembling with awe on the sheer sight of such utter incredible stuff. I hereby solomny swear that this movie is campy & culty (at least the temple dance scene should be) and I rate it about 1+ just to get it higher/deeper in the Bottom-100 movie list.
I had this movie on my harddisk a few years ago but I deleted it in a cleaning action - oh my gawd, how I regretted that.
The story is about a tropical island in the stone age (it was actually shot in Florida). Men (in Goonah) and women (in Wongo) are living in seperate tribes and in seperate corners of the island. One day (oh, happy day) the tribes meet and some well known chemistry is developing in the rest of movie.
The many silly quotes are a major part of the movie;
- "It's a man, it must be"
- "He's fun, I think I'll keep him"
This 1958 film was the only one produced and directed by James Wolcott and the only film written by Cedric Rutherford. And only one cast member ever got to another film.
some critic wrote;
"This film is ten sub-basements below stupid and senseless. In fact, only one cast member ever made another film. How they convinced a studio to shoot this film must be a story for the ages. Clearly some sort of incriminating photos of somebody important at the studio with a garden gnome in a latex outfit and three midgets smeared with jam jelly must have fallen into the wrong hands for this to get greenlighted."
Of course there is no nudity or explicit sex in this 1958 movie, but a lot of crazy Tarzan & Jane look-a-likes are running around. I think it is ripping fun - with some grass.
We must thank the United States Archives and Hartmut for providing the link to this 740 MB. movie in .mp4 format.

Sin
Jessica Alba in Sin City, (c) Miramax Films
I was wondering what could top my previous blog, because that one was pretty cool. Now I found many reasons to introduce you to Sin City (2005). It is a highly rewarded movie from director Robert Rodriguez and comics writer/artist Frank Miller.
This movie pulls all the punches in violence. It deserves its R-rating in the first five minutes and doesn't let up until the end credits roll. It has it all - bullets, boobies and be-headings - beautifully set in a grim atmosphere that really keeps you on the edge of your seat. The cast is big/great and their performances are all excellent. Fans of the comic will not be disappointed in this film adaption. This movie is definitely not for the squeamish or faint-of-heart. It grabs you by the balls / tits and don't let go.
It is a two hour movie in black-and-white comic style. My main reasons for posting this movie are Bruce Willis and Jessica Alba. In the second half of the movie they get entangled in some kinda relationship that is loaded with erotic tensions without getting explicit. The director and the writer here really grasp the full meaning of these two icons.

John
some CSI chick will tell us the full story about these little friends
John Woo is a movie director from Southern China. He grew up in Hong Kong where he started his movie career. I got to know this guy because he is a favorite of Quentin Tarantino and I am a fan of Quentin (friends meet friends).
Super-Violence and Super-Story-Telling are the only two keywords that you need. "A Better Tomorrow" (ying hung boon sik) from 1986 is an award winning classic. It comes with some of the best Asian blam-blam-blam gangster action scenes.
John's "Bullet in the Head" (die xue jie tou) from 1990 gave him the international reputation that he deserved and the Hollywood exposure. It's definitely an Asian action/gangster/war movie but it also has a story about keeping/winning/loosing friends in the Vietnamese war. Yes, John McCain's story crossed my mind.
Some critic wrote;
Best friends Ben, Frank and Paul have known each other for 10 years, and they promise that no matter what, they will always stick together. The story begins in 1967 Hong Kong, and from the opening scenes, we figure that these guys aren't your clean-cut individuals. A brawl with a rival gang shows their toughness and attitude. When Ben and his girlfriend Jane get married, Frank gets overzealous with the gang on his way to the wedding, and finds himself cut up and bleeding at the ceremony. Frank and Paul get revenge, and when the gang leader is killed, the police search for the suspects. Frank and Paul drag the hesitant Ben with them, forcing him to depart from his new wife after only one day of marital bliss. The three have to get out of Hong Kong, and their ticket is to become smugglers to get a free ride to Saigon, which is embroiled in the Vietnam War at that time. The men meet up with partner Luke, and together they plan a double-cross to get a box of gold from gangster Mr. Leong. Saigon just isn't the place to be. With demonstrations, mad bombers, protestors and American soldiers around every corner, Ben and his buddies have difficulty getting around the country. Their new surroundings prove to be overwhelming, and after a particularly unlucky streak of events, their loyalty is put to the test like they could have never imagined.
The "Killing Of The Yankies" scene is [WARNING] heavy stuff and very much the [3:20min./50MB.] climax of the movie;
The full 126:18min. .avi comes in 14x100MB. parts

When you Google or Wiki for Belgian Writers, you never-no-way find this guy. I had to ping his name among my iPals, because I forgot.

He lives in the Flemish town of Ghent, one of the greatest places you must visit when you are around.

Born
Bruce Springsteen, Live, Born in the U.S.A., 1986
It is hard to neglect Barack Obama's election victory - of historical proportions indeed. The most impressive part for me was, that people all around the world were dancing in the streets.
There was a quote in my newspaper that all USA'sies should imprint; "The USA Just Won The War On Terror". It probably means that the USA has some more friends now and lost some enemies - but you must keep them close (both).
After a multi-day chill-down you must hope and pray that He can clean up the mess that Bush left behind [Yes We Can ... Are You Sure?]. It's a f*cking tough job and He probably needs more than four years.

Hang
I blogged their "Book" episode before - the elderly raunchy students from Amsterdam - without taking into account my international visitors.
The language is still Dutch but this is a more graphic episode, called "Hang-Over" that needs little explanation. It's all about "the day after the night before" and it's among their best ones.
Chica
On average this movie is imdb-rated at 2.5 [12 votes] and a recent critic rated it at 10.0 [in 2001]. This is a typical score for a Jess Franco movie; you just hate or love this guy.
Private Eye Al Crosby (Robert Foster) is hired to do some tracking down and he gets the help of two hookers (one played by Lina Romay). At first Crosby thinks this is your typical murder hunt but it turns out a woman has hired him to find her missing penis. You see, she was once a man and after her operation, she returned home with her penis in a jar and someone stole it. Yep, this is a Franco movie. That big revelation doesn't come to the end, which is a shame because it would have been a lot more fun if the PI was going after that instead of the murder plot we have to sit through. The story makes no sense whatsoever so the film becomes very boring. There's a great music score by Pablo Villa and Franco and of course there are countless sex scenes with all sorts of beautiful women getting naked. There's an erotic threesome at the start of the film as well. Franco is known for leaving mistakes in his films if they come off as something that might happen and one of these is the highlight in this film. During the threesome, Romay is trying to get Foster's pants off but both of them are struggling to do so and they finally break out of character and just start laughing.

The Beijing CCTV building [2004-2009]
Some modern Dutch stuff about architecture. I urgently needed to make this blog, because I keep forgetting his name. Rem Koolhaas is a well known Dutch architect. His Rotterdam based OMA bureau did some prestigious projects. I'm sure you can Wiki/Google more about this guy when you like this stuff.
I just want to mention his CCTV project (Chinese State Television) because it got some exposure during the Bejing Olympics. The story goes that (viewed from a certain angle) the building looks like a Chinese character. INTELLECTUAL-ALERT; Rem also wrote books and articles in many magazines.
This is what the Chinese jury said about the design;
"The jury considered the final architectural design for the new CCTV site neither humble nor pert, showing a striking style of its own while bearing no marks of exclusiveness. As a graceful and sturdy sculpture-style edifice, the planned new CCTV building can not only represent the new image of Beijing, but also express, in the language of architecture, the importance and the cultural nature of the TV industry. The novelty and feasibility of the structural design will surely push forward the innovation of structural systems and theories of China’s high-rise buildings. The jury believed that the implementation of the design will not only help establish the symbolic image of CCTV, but also turn over a new leaf in the annals of Chinese architecture."

Thank you for noticing - Lenny Bruce is in my re-up agenda.
Tomorrow are the USA presidential elections. This time it looks pretty special. I am a very involved and concerned liberal, also a notorious sceptic but I will drop some tears of joy when Obama wins. The "USA system" will probably rule the world for the next few years, despite the credit-crisis and/or the president.

Mauritz
Maurits' Sunday suit (replica)
Some Dutch history now. I blogged some of this stuff before. Because nationalism is not a great/big political issue here, I can safely blog some stuff from our great national history. The current Dutch identity (with our queen and all) was basically formed in/by the 80-year war with the Spanish king Philip-II. It was not just a quarrel between the Dutch protestants and the Spanish catholics (everybody was catholic is those days) - it was much more a fight about land, identity, ruling.
The 80-year war is/was idealized as the beginning of the Dutch Nation. On the other hand it was a dirty, gueruilla type of war, both from the Dutch and the Spanish side. Nowadays this would be a serious case for the International Court Of Justice for warcrimes.
Maurits van Nassau [1567–1625] was the son of William the Silent [1533—1584]. He was the Dutch military genius in those days - and he had some cool gear too ... ;)
We Dutch have very few songs about this time. You have to dig very deep to find this one [The Trumpet Player].

Cyndi Lauper in her "At Last" concert, New York, 2004
I want to dedicate this little blog to Cyndi Lauper. In an hour or so we are leaving for her Amsterdam concert - her Bring Ya To The Brink World Tour. That was her latest but not one of her best albums.
We fear she is on a sales trip for this latest album. Her 2003/2004 New York "At Last" performance and her 2003 "The Body Acoustic" are/were her (and our) climaxes - musically speaking. We hope she does some work from these albums.
---
Now we're back and it was a great show, also Rosy and the Goldbugs as the supporting act were great. It was a smashing rock show, she was in her classy black and purple dress, great voice as ever, good sound, Cyndi was energetic and the public was also great.
Her encore-1 "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" was with Rosy, Pixy, and Plums (all of the Goldbugs) - just Hot.
Her encore-2 "True Colors" is her tribute to her lesbian sister and all other gays/lesbians. This song was of course very well recieved by the Amsterdam public.
We were standing just behind the sound guy and the photographers. I could exchange some info and bytes with the photographing girls; so maybe we can expect some exclusive pictures in the next few days (thank you girls in advance).
Just four to six hours after the concert, there were the first tubes. This is a nice one.
Her "Echo" song from her "Bring Ya To The Brink" was not bad at all.
And if you wonder, why I have a crush on this lady, you should look at this 20 yo. clip from Paris.

Four
I blogged Moon Bloodgood before, because this chick is playing a part in the 2009 Terminator 4 movie. Christian Bale is John Connor in this episode. The voice in the trailer still sounds like Arnold's.
Here are the trailers from the tube;
- 1984 The Terminator [Trailer]
- 1991 Terminator 2 Judgement Day [Trailer]
- 2003 Terminator 3 Rise of the Machines [Trailer]
- 2009 Terminator 4 Salvation [Trailer]

Janine

I blogged Janine [1978] end 2007 - about a year ago now. She was "a great talent" then - and even a bit more than that.
Now she just won the 2008 Dutch Classical Music Award for (very important) her "sympathetic personality" and being an "ambassador for the genre". Typical Dutch bullshit! Internationally she is widely acclaimed for her MUSIC;
"Jansen is a completely winning soloist, with consistently lovely sound, a superb technique that is always at the service of the music, and a rare instinct for how and when to build towards climaxes."
Nigel Simeone, International Record Review, Feb. 2007
She was already ranking among the stars in 2006. Here is a fabulous track of Janine with the Gewandhausorchester and director Riccardo Chailly.

Polly
Polly Jean Harvey in concert
I blogged her before, when she was playing with some friends and Tom Waits. I think this great woman deserves a blog of her own - and I am not the only one thinking like that.
My iPal just poked me with a bunch of her albums;
- 1992 Dry (her first album)
- 1993 Rid Of Me
- 1993 4 Track Demos
- 1995 To Bring You My Love
- 1996 Dance Hall at Louse Point
- 1998 Is This Desire?
- 2000 Stories from the City, Stories from the Sea
- 2004 Uh Huh Her
- 2006 The Peel Sessions
- 2007 White Chalk
- The B-Sides - Limited Edition
