Amazon

You can find some hits on this my blog with a search for 'cannibal' and/or 'holocaust' (some links may be dead by now). They all reference the orginal 1980 movie from Ruggero Deodato. When you know that he was arrested and questioned about his movie, you can more appreciate this genre.

And then I stumbled upon this 1985 Canibal Holocuast II movie aka Amazonia. It was new to me and it looks like a great 'me-too' effort. It's definitely an Italian Cannibal sleazer, but it has a strong focus on nudity.

In 1988 there was a second movie (aka) Canibal Holocaust II, don't mix them up.

Though it is not great, and can not even be compared to Cannibal Ferox or Cannibal Holocaust, Amazonia is a pretty good film. It's more of a (gory) drama and action film rather then a horror film. The main character in this film is a young girl. She has gone to visit her family that live way out there in the middle of nowhere, out by the Amazon. They all decide to take a boatride on the river. But, they go too far, and they are attacked by an Amazon tribe. Everyone is killed, except for our heroin. She is kidnapped, and taken deep into the Amazon forrest. Now, she must either find a way to escape, or be forced to live with the Amazon head hunters.
Though the violent scenes are kinda spread out, when they do happen they are very brutal and gory. If you are into the old Italian cannibal films, then you will definitely like Amazonia.
