Brothers

The Tielman Brothers were the very first Dutch Rock & Roll band in the fifties. They don't get the attention that they deserve. The style is called 'Indo Rock' because these guys have Indonesian roots (former Dutch territory). I remember an interview with Andy Tielman in my newspaper from a few months ago; so incredibly Dutch (non-star, humble and friendly). Here is a 10 track mix from the Tielman Brothers (35MB.)

01 Rock Little Baby
02 In My Room
03 Little Bird
04 A.A.A.
05 Record Hop
06 Java Guitar
07 Pretend
08 O Rosalie

Eve

Just some great weekend sleazy horror fun. I really liked this movie. All credits go to Ravenlord for providing the links. Adam & Evil (2004) aka Halloween Camp 2.

After their high-school graduation, eight friends decide to celebrate in a campground in Lake Nede with booze and sex. They get lost and stop in a bar to ask for directions. One of the boys is seduced by the slut wife of the local sheriff, while the group is chased by two bad elements from their school. Once in the lake, one by one is killed by a murderer, and the survivors guess who might be the criminal.

Swim

Australian Olympic Swimming Team 2008

There is a big hype about the super hi-tech swim suits, the officials can't set the rules properly. My rule is simple: 100 square inch max.

By the way, 'The Swim' was a dance / song from Bobby Freeman in the 1960's. And the bikini song is still looping here. You don't have to be a rocket scientist to connect the dots ...

Taste

A few years ago there were some Belgian guys that did a small movie festival called The Night of Bad Taste. Too bad they stopped. I have their second DVD with lots of Cannibal and Godzilla clips (not ripped yet) - it's all really over the top. To give you an impression, these movies have been shown at their festivals;
- Queen of Outer Space (1958)
- Blood Feast (1963)
- Two Thousand Maniacs (1964)
- Deadly Weapons (1974)
- Double Agent 73 (1975)

I guess this movie is in the same category - but it has a high rating that makes you wonder. The many aka titles is always a sign that this must be a shady and thrashy movie.
- Misterios de Ultratumba
- Mysteries from Beyond the Grave (informal literal English title)
- Mysteries from Beyond the Tomb (informal alternative title)
- The Black Pit of Dr. M (dubbed version)

By day, Dr. Mazali (Rafael Bertrand) runs an insane asylum. By night, he lashes out at the veil between this life and the next, desperate to contact his former partner, Dr. Harrison Aldeman (Jacinto Aldama), who was executed for a crime he did not commit. What follows is madness, tragedy, agonizing violence and the unrelenting horror of infinite damnation.

Baker

Chet Baker and Jimmy Bond, Amsterdam 1955 (thank you Joe Elkins)

Chet Baker (1929-1988) died in Amsterdam when he fell out of his hotel window, probably drunk and/or stoned. And then I found this 630MB. movie. It's a performance at Ronnie Scott's Club from 1986 featuring Elvis Costello and Van Morrison. This is a pretty impressive movie, when you're into this kinda stuff.

All credits go to Nico for providing the links;

"In the early 1950s, trumpeter-vocalist Chet Baker was the "James Dean of Jazz." Blessed with good looks and a lyrical and lean trumpet style, Baker arrived on the scene in California at the age of 22, when the great alto saxophonist Charlie Parker invited him to work in his band. Decades later, Baker got involved in drugs, had run-ins with the law, and became a poster boy for the image of the doped-out jazz fiend.
This 1986 film, shot two years before Baker fell to his death from a hotel in Amsterdam, captures the painful pathos and poetry of his art in an intimate set at Ronnie Scott's famed jazz club in London. With a breathy, walking-on-eggshells trumpet tone similar to the sound of Miles Davis, and an achy, whisper-toned vocal style, the weathered and weary Baker delivers piercing takes on a number of standards and jazz classics, including "Just Friends," "My Ideal," and "Shifting Down."
Punk rock icon Elvis Costello joins Baker on blue-embered renditions of "The Very Thought of You" and "You Don't Know What Love Is." Not to be outdone, Van Morrison of "Moondance" fame duets with Baker on an intimate reading of "Send in the Clowns." In addition to the music, Costello interviews Baker about various and sundry aspects of his life: his boyhood in Oklahoma, his evolution as a jazz artist, and his nightmarish decent into drugs. Along with a detailed discography, career tree, and trivia track, this DVD gives us the best of this talented but tortured genius.
Chet Baker's performance here is both fragile and passionate. Baker is joined by Van Morrison and reunited with Elvis Costello, with whom he recorded Shipbuilding at Ronnie Scott's intimate English club. Chet recalls winning a spot with Charlie Parker's band at the tender age of 22, but humbles himself by confessing to a lifelong addiction to drugs."

The .avi movie comes in about 7x90MB. files;

Popcorn

The Videls

Popcorn is a US music style from the early 1960's named after "The Popcorn", the dancing in Vrasene, Waasland, Belgium where this music was first played. It opened in 1969 and it was namend after James Brown's hit Mother Popcorn. Warning: Popcorn (sweet) differs very much from James Brown (hot).

It is a (slow) danceable mix of soul, latin, chachacha, highschool-rock, doo-wop, ska and r&b (says Ruud). It also has lots of violins, pianos and Phil Spector's 'wall-of-sound' in it. It is a very popular style in Belgium. Some samples;
- Say It Again - Ruth Brown
- Don't Come Crying - The Frontiers
- The Wonder Of Your Love - Bobby D'Fano

Here is a Top-100 album (you can just unrar the .7z file);
